Brown County Commissioner Gary Worley was one of 17 public officials from across the state to graduate from the 2014 Texas Association of Counties (TAC) Executive Leadership Class on Friday, July 11.
Modeled after the framework of other elite leadership development programs and taught by a prestigious group of Texas business, communications and leadership experts, TAC’s Executive Leadership Class is an intensive, interactive and intimate program designed to propel public servants to become stronger leaders who work together for the betterment of their counties and Texas county government. Officials must apply to participate.
“The TAC Executive Leadership Class is for county officials who want to be agents of positive change, who want to be innovators in government and who want to be leaders in solving the problems their communities and regions face,” said TAC Leadership Program Manager Mark Warren. “Leadership Class graduates will help lead their counties, communities and state to a better tomorrow.”
The curriculum — taught in three different modules over the course of a year — included sessions on leadership in the public sector, communications challenges, leadership styles, ethics and integrity, teambuilding, collaboration and critical issues facing county government.Presenters for this year’s class included Doug Dretke, the executive director for the Criminal Justice Center’s Correctional Management Institute of Texas (CMIT); Andrew Garrison and Allison Orr, the creative forces behind the documentary “Trash Dance;” Donna Zajonc, a three-term state legislator from Oregon and author of The Politics of Hope: Reviving the Dream of Democracy; and Clear Channel Communications co-founder Red McCombs, among others.
