The Brown County Commissioners Court met briefly today to vote on and accept the tax rate for 2009.
The meeting in its entirety lasted almost 3 minutes, which was a marked difference from the previous day’s meeting which lasted almost 3 hours (see full story HERE).
The commissioner’s passed a resolution stating:
Brown County property taxes will be increased by adoption of a total tax rate of 0.5227.
- General Fund Rate — .4055
- Debt Service Rate — .0388
- Road and Flood Rate — .0784
———————————–
- Total Rate — .5227
This tax rate will effectively raise more taxes for maintenance and operation than last year’s rate by 1.81%. The tax rate will raise taxes for maintenance and operations on a $100,000 home by approximately $6.60.
The tax rate itself did not increase from the 2008 rate, but since property values increased, the money generated from taxes increased effectively increasing taxes.
