SHOW CATTLE HOOF TRIMMING

Tommy Sweatner will be at the Brown County Youth Fair Barns on Tuesday August 30th at 3:00p.m.. This would be a good opportunity to have your show cattle’s hooves trimmed if they need it. Mr. Sweatner will charge a fee. If you have any questions, contact the Extension Office.

HEART OF TEXAS FAIR

It is that time already to start thinking about stock shows. The fall stock shows that are coming up are West Texas Fair, State Fair, and Heart of Texas Fair. The deadline for Heart of Texas Fair is September 9th. The entry forms are available at the Extension Office. If you have any questions, please contact the Extension Office.

REGION X HIGH SCHOOL RODEO

If you know of any High School age young people who are interested in becoming members of the Texas High School Rodeo Association, the 2011-2012 membership information is available now. Region X includes Brown County. The membership fee is $240 per person. There will be 11 sanctioned high school rodeos this year for Region X. Almost all of these Rodeos will be held in Hamilton. The 10 contestants in each event that have the most points earned at the end of the 11 sanctioned rodeos will have the opportunity to advance to the 2012 Texas High School Rodeo Association Finals, which will be held in Abilene, Texas in June. 2012 ROUNDUP LOGO AND THEME CONTEST NOW OPEN FOR SUBMISSIONS 

With the 2012 Texas 4-H Roundup moving to Lubbock the opportunity has never been greater to put your mark on Roundup. Do not miss this chance to leave your mark on history.

CLOVERS & CAMERAS: TEXAS 4-H FALL PHOTOGRAPHY SERIES

Find out how to make the most of your 4-H Photography project during this five series workshop! 4-H’ers, leaders, and volunteers will learn from the pros. All participants must be at least 11 years of age and have their own camera to bring to the workshops. The five Workshop Package is $125 and includes lunch and an educational booklet from all workshops.  Individual workshops are $30 each and includes lunch and educational materials. Registration will open on August 15th on 4-H CONNECT and each workshop is limited to the first 30 registrations.

  • October 2nd:  Portraits
  • October 15th:  Photojournalism
  • October 22nd:  Landscapes
  • November 6th:  Beyond the Photos with Design

TEXAS 4-H IS LOOKING FOR A NEW THEME SONG

Do we have an opportunity for an inspiring youth song writer and performer. Two years ago, former 4-H member, Brison Bursey wrote and performed the theme for One Day 4-H community service project. We are looking for the next Brison Bursey! Entries are now being accepted from any active Texas 4-H member for a theme song that highlights what Texas 4-H is all about. Entries must be the original work of the person/group entering the song. Entries will be evaluated on the words, music score, and audience appeal. Score can be performed by individual or a band and can follow any genre.

Entries must be submitted by September 15, 2011 and the winner will be announced on Monday of National 4-H Week (October 3, 2011). The winning entry will be awarded a $200.00 prize and be featured throughout the week and year at events and activities hosted by Texas 4-H. Entries will need to be sent via e-mail (http://mce_host/t-lepley@ tamu.edu) or by mail on a CD/flash drive to Texas 4-H Office c/o Toby Lepley, 4180 State Hwy 6 South, College Station, TX 77845. Entries need to include the county where members are from, song writers name, names of all performers, and ages. Song writers and singers must be 4-H members, but can use adults as band members. The winning entry becomes the property of the Texas 4-H and Youth Development Program for use in 4-H programming with credit and recognition given to the 4-H member/band.

4-H ENROLLMENT IS OPEN ON 4-H CONNECT

August 1st started the enrollment process for the 2011-2012 4-H year in Texas. All 4-H families, new and returning, are encouraged to log in and enroll before October 31st in order to take advantage of the $20.00 participation fee. If you wait till November 1st enrollment fee will be $25.00. As you enroll in 4-H for the year, here are some tips in using 4-H CONNECT:

  If you already have a profile DO NOT create another one!

  If you lost your email and password – call your county office they can tell you your e-mail address and reset your password!

  To be an official 4-H member in Texas 4-H you must have an ACTIVE profile in 4-H CONNECT!

  An active membership will not be granted until participation fee is paid

  You cannot register for an event until your profile is ACTIVE.

Don’t wait until the last minute to enroll!
