BROWN COUNTY 4-H NEWS AND UPDATES
BARBECUE SANDWICH FUNDRAISER
The Barbecue Sandwich Fundraiser will be on June 6th at Tractor Supply. Flyers and order forms will be available Monday, May 19th at the Extension Office. The last day to turn in orders will be May 29th.– Plates consist of: pulled pork sandwich, chips, & drink for $7.50
– Plates will be sold the day of the fundraiser from 11AM to 2PM at Tractor Supply.
– Delivery will only be made on 10 plate minimum pre-sold orders.
– Money raised from the fundraiser will be divided evenly to 4-Hers that come and work the entire day (Friday, June 6th).
If you are interested in participating in the fund raiser please contact the Extension Office for more details.
This is a great way to have your 4-H membership dues paid for in September.
BROWNWOOD 4-H CLUB FUNDRAISER
Let Chili’s do the cooking while we support Brownwood 4-H Club at the same time. With each flyer presented on May 22nd, 29th and June 3rd Chili’s will donate 10% of the event day sales back to this great organization. The Brownwood 4-H Club Give Back Event is May 22nd, 29th and June 3rd, 10:45am- 10:00pm only at the Brownwood Chili’s location.
MANDATORY STATE 4-H ROUNDUP MEETING
There will be a mandatory roundup meeting on June 3rd, 5:30p.m. at the Extension Office. We will be confirming travel arrangements and contest. Payment is due at the time of the meeting. If you have any questions contact Nick Gonzales.
MAJOR STOCK SHOW CHECKS
We have received truck and placing checks from Fort Worth Stock Show and only truck checks from San Antonio, San Angelo Stock Show, Houston and Austin Stock Show. If you participated in these major stock shows and placed in your class or put your animal on the truck please come by the office to pick up your check. SCHOLARSHIP AVAILABLE FROM BROWN COUNTY FARM BUREAU
Graduating seniors in Brown County now have the opportunity to apply for a college scholarship through Brown County Farm Bureau. May 31, 2014 is the deadline to apply. The scholarship will total $1,000, $500 for each semester for one school year provided the student maintains grades. Students or their family must be new or current Brown County Farm Bureau members. Applications can be picked up at the Brown County Farm Bureau Office located on HWY 377 South in Brownwood.
TEXAS A&M HORSEMANSHIP CLINIC
Texas A&M Horsemanship Clinic is set for June 5-7, 2014 in Comanche, Texas. The clinic will be held at the Comanche Roping Arena. The clinic is designed to give youth and adults an opportunity to gain a solid foundation and advance riding skills. The cost for the clinic is $50 per person for 3 days. DISTRICT 7 HORSE SHOW
The District 7 Horse Show is scheduled for June 17, 2014. The show will take place at the Nolan County Coliseum. You must have validated a horse in order to participate in the show. Registration opens May 12th on 4-H Connect and deadline to register is May 29th.
2014 TEXAS 4-H ROPING SCHOOL
On June 15-19, 2014, the Statewide Texas 4-H Calf Roping and Break-A-Way School will be held in Stephenville, Texas. The school will be held at the Tarleton State University Equine Arena. This event encourages young people in 4-H to develop leadership ability and to exercise their abilities in working with younger members in roping activities. Participation is open to all districts of the state, with applications being accepted on a first-come, first- serve basis with first priority to those boys and girls who are 12 years of age and older.
The cost for the school is $380.00. This will include group insurance, meals, lodging, stall rent for one horse and will cover the cost of practice calves used in the teaching process. Most meals will be taken in the Tarleton State University Dining Hall. All students will be housed at the University Dormitories. Students will not be allowed to stay elsewhere. JUNIOR/INTERMEDIATE FASHION SHOW
The District 7 Junior/Intermediate Fashion Show is set for Tuesday July 15, 2014, in Grape Creek, Texas. If you are interested in participating please contact Kim Miles at the Extension Office.
LEADERSHIP LAB
Districts 7 and 10 Council Teams have joined forces to create a Leadership-Lab experience you will never forget! This year’s Theme is “Don’t Be a Turtle… Get Out of Your Shell”. The event will be held June 25th-27th at the one and only Texas 4-H Conference Center in Brownwood, Texas. Come and join other 4-Her’s from District 7 and 10 and enjoy three days and three nights of fun as we work together to build leadership skills and character necessary for success! There will be outstanding and innovative workshops & activities that you can take back to your counties. These include:
– Getting Out of Your Shell
– Public Speaking/ Interview Skills
– Career Exploration
– Tying it all together & More!
4-H members who are eligible can run for a District 7 Officer position. District 7 is looking for a strong group of candidates to run and lead District 7 for the 2014-2015 year! If you are interested in running for an office or learning how you can pursue this in the future, contact Nick Gonzales before it is too late.

- Horizons – Grades 4-8, Dates of Camp June 29th – July 3rd, cost for camp is $280
- County Camp 1 – Dates of Camp June 30th – July 2nd , cost for camp is $180
- Mission Possible – Dates of Camp July 7th – July 9th, cost for camp is $175
- County Camp II– Dates of Camp July 9th – July 12th, cost for camp is $180
- County Camp III – Dates of Camp July 9th – July 12th, cost for camp is $230
- Prime Time I – Grades 5th-8th, Dates of Camp July 20th – July 23rd , cost for camp is $230
- Prime Time II – Grades 2nd – 5th, Dates of Camp July 23rd – July 26th, cost for camp is $230

4-H ENROLLMENT IS OPEN ON 4-H CONNECT!
The enrollment process for the 2013-2014 4-H year has started. All 4-H families, new and returning, are encouraged to log in and enroll in order to become an official 4-H member.
As you begin your enrollment for the year, here are some tips in using 4-H CONNECT:
- If you already have a profile DO NOT create another one!
- If you lost your email and password call the county office so we can reset it for you.
- An active membership will not be granted until the $20.00 participation fee is paid on 4-H Connect!
- You cannot register or participate in an event until your profile is ACTIVE.
- When you are doing your re-enrollment for the 2013-2014 4-H Year please make sure you update your address, phone number, and e-mail address.
- You can use your Spaghetti Luncheon Fundraiser Voucher to pay your membership dues. To do this you will have to come into the extension office to enroll.
- We are updating our e-mail database on November 1st so if you are not enrolled by then you will no longer receive newsletters updates via e-mail. Unless you notify the Extension Office prior to November 1st deadline.
Don’t wait until the last minute to enroll because after October 31st the cost increases to $25!!
