SUCCESSFUL BROWN COUNTY YOUTH FAIR
Brown County Youth Fair was a big success this year and Brown County 4-H would like to thank everyone who organized and helped with the fair. 4-H would like to also thank all the donors and supports of the 2014 Premium Sale. As agents, we are proud of all the 4-H members who participated and would like to congratulate everyone. If you have any pictures from the youth fair that you would like posted on the Brown County 4-H Facebook page e-mail them to nigonzales@ag.tamu.edu. For those members that will be participating in the major livestock shows, GOOD LUCK!!!
MAJOR STOCK SHOW PASSES
The Ft. Worth, San Angelo, and San Antonio Stock Show passes have arrived. Participants may pick up their passes at the Extension Office. If you have signed up for any of these shows and are NOT going to be participating or have any other questions please contact Nick Gonzales.
FT. WORTH STOCK SHOW
If you are participating in the Ft. Worth Stock Show all species of livestock MUST HAVE HEALTH PAPERS FROM A VETERINARIAN WITHIN 30 DAYS OF SHOW. If you have any questions please contact Nick Gonzales.
CONSUMER DECISION MAKING
Consumer Decision Making is a contest used to educate youth on how to become smart shoppers and make proper decisions and defend them with reasons. If you are a senior age 4-Her and advance past state you have the opportunity to compete at the Northwestern Stock Show in Denver, Colorado. If you are interested in participating there will be a practices on January 21st5:00p.m. at the Extension Office.
4-H OPPORTUNITY SCHOLARSHIP
If you are a senior 4-Her applying for the Texas 4-H Opportunity scholarship the deadline to have your scholarship turned in to be sent to the District Office will be February 3rd. For more information or questions contact Nick Gonzales at the Extension Office.
COUNTY & DISTRICT TEEA SCHOLARSHIP
Brown County TEEA and District 7 TEEA offers a scholarship opportunity to a graduating senior from high school. If you are interested in applying for the county scholarship there is an application that you will need to fill out. To be eligible for the district scholarship you would have needed to complete a 2013 4-H recordbook and the application material. The deadline to turn in your application and recordbook is January 31st. If you would like more information or have any questions contact Kim Miles at the Extension Office.
PHOTOGRAPHY WORKSHOPS
Do you have an interest in taking photos? If so we have a contest just for you! The photography project encourages self-expression and teaches proper use of photographic equipment and developing processes. There is going to be a series of workshops available for youth that are interested. The first workshop is set for February 10th, 5:00p.m. at the Extension Office. If you are interested in participating in the photography contest please contact Nick Gonzales.
MASTER CHEF JUNIOR
MasterChef is on a nationwide search for the most talented young home chef in America between the ages 8-13 as of March 10, 2014. The winner will receive a large cash prize and the title of MasterChef Junior. If you think you are the next MasterChef there will be an open casting call in Dallas, Texas, Saturday, January 25, 2014 10:00a.m. – 6:00p.m. at the Holiday Inn on 6070 North Central Expressway, Dallas, Texas 75206. 4-H ENROLLMENT IS OPEN ON 4-H CONNECT!
The enrollment process for the 2013-2014 4-H yearhas started. All 4-H families, new and returning, are encouraged to log in and enroll in order to become an official 4-H member.
As you begin your enrollment for the year, here are some tips in using 4-H CONNECT:
- If you already have a profile DO NOT create another one!
- If you lost your email and password call the county office so we can reset it for you.
- An active membership will not be granted until the $20.00 participation fee is paid on 4-H Connect!
- You cannot register or participate in an eventuntil your profile is ACTIVE.
- When you are doing your re-enrollment for the 2013-2014 4-H Year please make sure you update your address, phone number, and e-mail address.
- You can use your Spaghetti Luncheon Fundraiser Voucher to pay your membership dues. To do this you will have to come into the extension office to enroll.
- We are updating our e-mail database on November 1st so if you are not enrolled by then you will no longer receive newsletters updates via e-mail. Unless you notify the Extension Office prior to November 1st deadline.
Don’t wait until the last minute to enroll because after October 31st the cost increases to $25!!
