BROWN COUNTY 4-H MEMBERS COMPETE AT STATE 4-H ROUND UP
Texas 4-H Roundup was held on the campus of Texas Tech University on June 11-15. Brown County was well represented at this year’s competition. Texas 4-H Roundup is the highlight of the 4-H year for many 4-H members. It is the culmination of many long hours of practice throughout the year. 4-H members compete in judging, share the fun, quiz bowl and public speaking contests as well as food show, food challenge and fashion show. There are also various educational workshops and of course 4-H dances in the evenings. 4-H Roundup also provides the opportunity for the youth to experience “college life” by competing on campus.
Cassie Goforth from the Brownwood 4-H Club received a $16,000 Houston Livestock Show & Rodeo scholarship through the Texas 4-H & Youth Development Foundation. Cassie plans to attend Texas Woman’s University and major in Nutritional Science. Results from contests are as follows:

COUNTY JUNIOR/INTERMEDIATE FASHION SHOW
The County Junior/Intermediate 4-H Fashion Show has been scheduled for Friday, June 29 at 1:00 p.m. at the County Extension office. Those who qualify at the county level will advance to district competition on July 19 in San Angelo. Age divisions for the junior/intermediate fashion show are:
Juniors age 8 and in the third grade to age 10 as of August 31, 2011
Intermediate – age 11-13 as of August 31, 2011
Categories of entry for construction division are dressy, single garment, specialty and sportswear/casual. Categories of entry for buying division are pant type and dress type. Additional categories of entry are Texas Natural Fiber Competition, Embellished apparel division, Jewelry Making division, Non-Apparel Sewing division, and Fashion Story Board.
RECORDBOOK JUDGING
The District Recordbook Judging will be July 10th at the Texas 4-H Center. We are looking for volunteers who would be interested in judging record books. This will be a great opportunity to gather ideas for your 4-Hers recordbook next year. If you would like to be a judge please contact Nick Gonzales.
SCHLEICHER COUNTY 4-H PLAY DAY
Schleicher County 4-H is putting on a play day on July 6, 2012. The play day will be held at the Schleicher County Rodeo Arena in Eldorado, Texas. Registration begins at 5:00p.m. and competition begins at 6:00p.m. The cost to enter the play day is $5.00 per event or $20.00 for 5 events. The events you can enter are as follows:
– Pole Bending
– Barrels
– Goat Tying
– Breakaway Roping
– Goat Ribbon Pulling
– Pee Wee Walk Trot
– Stakes
– Flag Race
ADULT CHAPERON NEEDED FOR CAMP CORRAL
The Texas 4-H Center is in need of adult chaperons for Camp Corral, which will be held July 15-20, 2012. All fees will be paid for by the camp. Camp Corral is a place where kids are free to be kids, apart from the day – to – day challenges they may face as children of wounded or disabled military families. Contact Nick Gonzales if you are interested in chaperoning this camp.
2012 WEST REGION GOLF CHALLENGE
A two day golf experience for youth ages 11-18. There will be workshops, golf professional clinic, evening social, and a 18 hole Golf Challenge. The West Region Golf Challenge will be July 23-24, 2012 in Sonora, Texas at the Sonora Golf Club. Registration is on 4-H Connect and the registration opens on May 1st and ends on July 9, 2012. SUMMER CAMP OPPORTUNITIES AT THE TEXAS 4-H CENTER
Texas 4-H Center Youth Programs will provide your child with the chance to develop character, learn valuable life skills, make new friends, and discover new interests. Finding the right camp for your child is as important as helping them find the right college! Annually, five or more sessions are offered each summer for youth ages 9 (or completed 2nd grade) to age 18, 4-H membership is NOT required for most camps. All camp registrations are made through the Texas 4-H Center website, texas4hcenter.tamu.edu. The 4-H Center is accredited by American Camp Association. Listed below are the different camps that will be offered this summer at the Texas 4-H Center:

– Mission Possible Mentor Training, July 22, 2p.m. – July 23, 11a.m., cost is $80

4-H ENROLLMENT IS OPEN ON 4-H CONNECT!
August 1st started the enrollment process for the 2011-2012 4-H year in Texas. All 4-H families, new and returning, are encouraged to log in and enroll in order to become an official 4-H member. If you are wanting to become an adult leader or volunteer we encourage you to enroll for the 2011-2012 year. There is no cost for adult leaders or adult volunteers. As you enroll in 4-H for the year, here are some tips in using 4-H CONNECT:
If you already have a profile DO NOT create another one!
If you lost your email and password call the county office we can tell you your e-mail address and reset your password!
To be an official 4-H member in Texas 4-H you must have an ACTIVE profile in 4-H CONNECT!
An active membership will not be granted until the $25.00 participation fee is paid on 4-H Connect!
You cannot register for an event until your profile is ACTIVE.
When you are doing your re-enrollment for the 2011-2012 4-H Year please make sure you update your address, phone number, and e-mail address.
Don’t wait until the last minute to enroll!
