TURKEY BOXES

The Annual Community Service project is making 20 Turkey Boxes to be donated to the Family Service Center so that 20 families who are not able to afford a Christmas dinner will be able to because of Brown County 4-H. We are asking that each club put at least one box together. We would like to see each club put more boxes together if possible.

We will be taking the boxes to the Family Service Center on December 20th. If you are planning on participating you need to be at the Extension Office at 1:00p.m. on December 20th. Following the delivery of turkey boxes the Brown County 4-H Council will be hosting a Christmas social at the Academy Lanes Bowling Alley. Pizza and drinks will be provided. It will be $5.50 per game for each 4-Her to bowl.

Call the Extension Office and let us know how many boxes your club will be putting together. Below is a list of the items that will need to be put into the boxes.

Corn Bread Mix

* If you would like contribute any of these items you may bring them by the Extension Office before December 20th.

* If you are going to be participating and need a letter sent to your school for excused absence please notify the Extension Office.

BANGS FFA LOCAL SHOW

The Bangs FFA Local Show will be held on December 22nd at 10:00a.m.. The show will be held at the Bangs Livestock Barn. This is a NO-CLIP show. The cost to enter the show is $5.00 per animal. This Show is for Bangs FFA and 4-H Members Only! For more information contact Ricky Gamblin or Marshall Stork at 325-752-6822.

SCHOLARSHIP TRAINING

District 7  is holding a scholarship training on December 18th for those who are interested in applying for the Texas 4-H and Youth Development Opportunity Scholarship. The training will be held at the Tom Green County 4-H Building from 6:30p.m. – 8:30p.m.. If you would like more information on the training or scholarship please contact Nick Gonzales.

NATIONAL AG DAY ESSAY CONTEST DEADLINE SET FOR FEBRUARY 1ST

The Agriculture Council of America (ACA) has announced the theme of this year’s National Ag Day Essay Contest. High school students, grades 9-12, are now eligible to submit an original, 450-word essay or two-minute video essay about the importance of agriculture focusing on the theme “American Agriculture: Nourishing Opportunities.”

The national essay winner will receive a $1,000 prize and a round-trip ticket to Washington D.C. for the Celebration of Ag Dinner March 19. The winner will have the opportunity to read the winning essay and join others in a festive Ag celebration.

The video essay contest winner will also receive a $1,000 prize. His/her video will be shown at the dinner. Essays are due by February 1st. The contest rules and entry form can be found online at www.agday.org.

MAY DAY CLASSIC BREEDING BOER GOAT SCHOLARSHIP

Scholarships will be awarded to deserving and qualifying individuals that participate in the Breeding Boer Goat Show at the Brown County Youth Fair. The scholarships will be awarded based on a point system. If you are planning on showing a Breeding Boer Goat in the Brown County Youth Fair this is a great scholarship opportunity for you. TEEN RETREAT

The Texas 4-H Conference Center will be hosting the Texas 4-H Teen Retreat January 4-6,   2013 at Lake Brownwood. The program will focus on leadership through hands-on experiences.

Teen Retreat at the Texas 4-H Conference Center provides a state level leadership   experience for 4-H youth ages 13-19.

The program is designed to allow teens to explore new or revised projects and curricula     resources and return to implement them in their counties

Featured sessions include: Bubbles in Food, Fitness Challenge, Robotics, Dancing,   GIS/GPS program and much more.

Join us for a weekend of Fun, Fun, Fun!

College professors, 4-H Specialists and other experts will lead program sessions.

The retreat is open to junior and intermediate age 4-H members. Participants must be between 13-19. Youth registration is $105 and $70 for adult chaperones. For registration information visit: texas4hcenter.tamu.edu Registration open Nov 1st to Dec 30th.

4-H ENROLLMENT IS OPEN ON 4-H CONNECT!

All 4-H families, new and returning, are encouraged to log in and enroll in order to become an official 4-H member. If you want to become an adult leader or volunteer we encourage you to enroll for the 2012-2013 year. The web site for 4-H CONNECT is www.4honline.com There is no cost for adult leaders or adult volunteers. As you enroll in 4-H for the year, here are some tips in using 4-H CONNECT:

If you already have a profile DO NOT create another one!

If you lost your email and password call the county office we can tell you your e-mail address and reset your password!

To be an official 4-H member in Texas 4-H you must have an ACTIVE profile in 4-H CONNECT!

An active membership will not be granted until the $20.00 participation fee is paid on 4-H   Connect!

You cannot register for an event until your profile is ACTIVE.

When you are doing your re-enrollment for the 2012-2013 4-H Year please make sure you update your address, phone number, and e-mail address.

You can use your Spaghetti Luncheon Fundraiser Voucher to pay your membership dues. To do this you will have to come into the extension office to enroll.

Don’t wait until the last minute to enroll because after October 31st the cost increases to $25!!
