BROWN COUNTY YOUTH FAIR CHECKLIST

The Brown County Youth Fair is approaching fast. Everyone should have your animals if you are planning on entering in the Livestock Division of the Youth Fair. There are a few other things that have to be done in order to participate in the Brown County Youth Fair. Below is a check list for you to go by to make sure you are covered.

– Enroll in 4-H

– Attend Validation (have your animal validated for county or state)

– Purchase a Youth Fair Membership (this is mandatory if you are entering livestock or home economics)

– Fill out an entry form for the Brown County Youth Fair (Deadline to enter is November 30th)

** If you are showing horses, you and your horse must attend one of the two mandatory practices on Dec 6th or Dec 20th 2:00 p.m. at the Youth Fair Barns Show Arena. You will also need to have the proof of ownership papers or bill of sale, registration papers or 4-H certification form. All horses must have negative EIA test documentation

Brown County 4-H Project Show, December 12th.

The Brown County 4-H Project Show will be held on Saturday, December 12th at the Brown County Youth Fair Barns. Entry fee for the show will be $5.00 per head and $5.00 per head for jackpot showmanship (showmanship will be broken up into juniors & seniors). We will be giving prizes to class winners, breed champions (if enough to make a breed), and grand & reserve overall. You must be enrolled in 4-H to participate in the show (clover kids can participate). At this point only swine pens will be available inside. If you use a pen it is your responsibility to clean it out before you leave. The schedule is below. If you have any questions please contact the Extension office.

DISTRICT 7 LIVESTOCK CLINIC & JACKPOT SHOW

The District 7 4-H Sheep & Goat, and Beef Project Development Committees are sponsoring a Livestock Clinic and Jackpot Show on Saturday, December 5, 2015. The clinic will be held at the John L. Kuykendall Event Center & Arena 2200 Ranch Road 152, Llano, TX 78643.

The Livestock Clinic will begin at 10:00a.m. and the show will begin at 12:00p.m.. The cost to enter the Jackpot Show is $10 per entry and Jackpot Showmanship Show is $5 per entry and there is no limit to how many animals you may enter into the show. YOUTH MUST PARTICIPATE IN THE LIVESTOCK CLINIC TO ENTER AND EXHIBIT IN THE JACKPOT SHOW! If you are interested in participating and would like more information contact Nick Gonzales.

DISTRICT 7 SWINE CLINIC & SHOW

The District 7 4-H Swine Clinic & Show will be held on December 5, 2015 at the Lampasas County Youth Livestock Barn.

The clinic will begin at 10:00a.m. and the show will begin at 10:30a.m.. Check/Weigh in will be from 7:00a.m.-9:30a.m. The cost to enter the show is $18 per entry. If you are interested in participating and would like more information contact Nick Gonzales.

TURKEY BOXES

The Annual Community Service project is making 30 Turkey Boxes to be donated to the Family Service Center so that we can help families have Christmas dinner.

The boxes will be wrapped and delivered to the Family Service Center on December 17th.  If you are planning on participating you need to be at the Extension Office at 12:30p.m. on December 17th. Pizza and drinks will be served for lunch. We will excuse 4-H members that want to participate who don’t have early release that Thursday.

Call the Extension Office if you have any questions or concerns. Below is a list of the items that need to be put into each box.

COMMUNITY SERVICE PROJECT OPPORTUNITY

The Salvation Army is looking for Kettle Bell Ringers for the upcoming holidays. They need volunteers beginning November 27th – December 24th.  This would be a great community service project opportunity for your club or as an individual. If you are interested in volunteering as a Kettle Bell Ringer applications are available at the Extension Office.

COLLEGIATE FARM BUREAU SCHOLARSHIPS AVAILABLE

Brown County Farm Bureau is once again offering collegiate scholarships for the spring 2016 semester. These scholarships are intended for those who are already in college or are of college age. Applications may be picked up at the Brown County Farm Bureau Office located at 2450 HWY 377 South in Brownwood.

Participants or their family must be Brown County Farm Bureau members in order to apply. Scholarship applications are due back to the Brown County Farm Bureau Office by December 15, 2015. For more information contact Brown County Farm Bureau at 325-646-5516.

SCHOLARSHIP TRAINING

District 7 is holding three scholarship trainings for those who are interested in applying for the Texas 4-H and Youth Development Opportunity Scholarship. All trainings will be from 6:30p.m. – 8:30p.m.

December 3 – Taylor County Extension Office

December 8 – Llano County Extension Office

December 10 – Tom Green County 4-H Building

Due dates and deadlines for 2016 Scholarship process are as follows:

4-H ENROLLMENT IS OPEN ON 4-H CONNECT!

The enrollment process for the 2015-2016 4-H year will begin August 15, 2015. All 4-H families, new and returning, are encouraged to log in and enroll in order to become an official 4-H member.

As you begin your enrollment for the year, here are some tips in using 4-H CONNECT:

  • If you already have a profile DO NOT create another one!
  • If you lost your email and password call the county office so we can reset it for you.
  • An active membership will not be granted until the $20.00 participation fee is paid on 4-H   Connect!
  • You cannot register or participate in an event until your profile is ACTIVE.
  • When you are doing your re-enrollment for the 2015-2016 4-H Year please make sure you update your address, phone number, and e-mail address.
  • You can use your Fundraiser Voucher to pay your membership dues. To do this you will have to come into the extension office to enroll.
  • We are updating our e-mail database on November 1st so if you are not enrolled by then you will no longer receive newsletters updates via e-mail. Unless you notify the Extension Office prior to November 1st deadline.

Don’t wait until the last minute to enroll because after October 31st the cost increases to $25!
