All record books that have been reviewed need to be turned into the Extension Office on Monday, July 13th, no later than 3:00p.m. If you have any questions contact Nick Gonzales.

LOOKING FOR CLUB MANAGERS

There is a need for two club managers for the upcoming 2015-2016 4-H year. The two clubs are Brownwood 4-H and Early 4-H Clubs.

Duties will consist of:

  • Managing the club with support of agents, volunteers, and youth.
  • Organizing monthly meetings.
  • Helping youth with yearly planning of fundraisers and community service projects.

This will be a great opportunity to support Brown County 4-H and each one of these communities. If you are interested or have any questions please contact Nick Gonzales.

District 7 Sheep and Goat Youth Leadership Tour

District 7 is hosting a sheep and goat tour July 27-29, 2015. This program is to educate youth on the aspects of sheep and goat production. It will cover topics such as evaluation, feedlots, breeds, and marketing. The purpose is to show that there is another side to sheep and goat production other than showing. The program will be in San Angelo and youth will be staying in the Concho Hall dorms provided by ASU. A chaperone must attend with the youth participant, please note that the chaperone is responsible for transporting the participants to each stop on the tour.

Registration fee is $75 per person (youth and chaperone). All participants must be 13 years old at the time of the event.  Registration forms and fees are due to the Concho County Extension Office by July 17, 2015. For more information and registration forms contact Nick Gonzales.

Brown County Council Officer Elections – July 20th

Are you interested in being a Youth Leader? Do you want to be someone that younger 4-H members can look up to? Well here is your chance!!! The past Brown County Council has been amazing and we are looking for more 4-H members to join the team.

  • What is County Council? The Brown County 4-H Council is a team in charge of providing leadership, planning, and help improve the 4-H program. Each of these 4-H members represents the 4-H program throughout the year at many different county and district events.
  • How do I become a member? Council officers are elected by current officers and County Council Delegates from each club.
  • Age: Must be 12 years old by August 31, 2015.
  • When? July 20th 5:00 p.m. at the Extension Office.
  • Where do I sign up? Applications will be available starting July 6th and will be due July 16th.

All club County Council delegates plan on attending July 20th, therefore you can vote for your 2015-2016 County Council Officers. If you have any questions about being on County Council please contact Nick Gonzales.

2016 UNITED WAY CAMPAIGN KICKOFF

The Brown County United Way will be holding their 2016 Campaign Kickoff event on Wednesday, August 5th at Underwood’s during lunch. This will be a great opportunity to support Brown County United Way and enjoy a lunch at Underwood’s. So come out and support an organization that supports Brown County 4-H. Proceeds made from that day will go to Brown County United Way.

WEST TEXAS FAIR AND STATE FAIR

It is that time already to start thinking about stock shows. The fall stock shows that are coming up are West Texas Fair and State Fair. The deadline to enter into the West Texas Fair and State Fair is August 7th. The entry forms are available at the Extension Office. If you have any questions please contact Nick Gonzales

Texas Hunter Education Program Offered in July in llano county

Hunter education is the first step in a lifelong commitment to responsible outdoor behavior, conservation and stewardship.

The Basic Hunter Education Course is designed for novice or young hunters, ages 9 years and above.  The course covers the core competencies of firearm and hunting safety, hunting ethics and wildlife conservation.  All materials are provided and subjects are covered to enable the student to successfully complete the hunter education certification process.

The Basic Hunter Education Course lasts a maximum of 6 hours of classroom instruction.  This time does not include registration, breaks, test administration and certification card distribution.  Courses are offered across the state year round and are taught by certified volunteer instructors.  The fee for the certification is $15.  Pre-registration is required.

The Llano 4-H Youth Committee will be sponsoring this course.  The date set is Thursday, July 23rd, at the Llano County Extension office, 1447 East State Hwy. 71-Unit E, Llano, TX 78643.  The course will be from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.  Lunch will be on your own; please feel free to bring a sack lunch or go to town for lunch.  Snacks will be available during the day. 4-H ENROLLMENT IS OPEN ON 4-H CONNECT!

The enrollment process for the 2014-2015 4-H year will begin August 15, 2014. All 4-H families, new and returning, are encouraged to log in and enroll in order to become an official 4-H member.

As you begin your enrollment for the year, here are some tips in using 4-H CONNECT:

  • If you already have a profile DO NOT create another one!
  • If you lost your email and password call the county office so we can reset it for you.
  • An active membership will not be granted until the $20.00 participation fee is paid on 4-H   Connect!
  • You cannot register or participate in an event until your profile is ACTIVE.
  • When you are doing your re-enrollment for the 2014-2015 4-H Year please make sure you update your address, phone number, and e-mail address.
  • You can use your Fundraiser Voucher to pay your membership dues. To do this you will have to come into the extension office to enroll.
  • We are updating our e-mail database on November 1st so if you are not enrolled by then you will no longer receive newsletters updates via e-mail. Unless you notify the Extension Office prior to November 1st deadline.

Don’t wait until the last minute to enroll because after October 31st the cost increases to $25!
