BROWN COUNTY 4-H NEWS AND UPDATES

2015 – 2016 STEER/HEIFER VALIDATION

If you are planning on exhibiting a steer at the Brown County Youth Fair or a State Show it is mandatory that the steer is validated. If you are planning on showing a heifer that has not been validated please contact the Extension Office. Steer/Heifer validation will be on June 29, 2015 3:00p.m. at Bob Clarks pens. If you have any questions contact the Extension Office.

MAJOR STOCK SHOW CHECKS

We have received truck and placing checks from Fort Worth Stock Show, San Antonio Stock Show, San Angelo Stock Show, Austin Stock Show and Houston Stock Show Truck Checks. If you participated in these major stock shows and placed in your class or put your animal on the truck please come by the office to pick up your check. If you have any questions please contact Nick Gonzales.

County Record Book Due Dates

It is that time to start putting your record book together. If you are planning on submitting a record book below are the important dates and information you will need.

  • Record Book Due for Review – June 15th

Guidelines:

  • Submission to District contest
  1. Juniors (ages 8 – 10 years old): Two Record Books per category
  2. Intermediates (ages 11 – 13 years old): Two Record Books per category
  3. Seniors (ages 14 – 18 years old): One Record Book per category

To be eligible for Gold Star (senior), Silver Star (intermediate), or Bronze Star (junior) you must submit a Record Book.

If you need assistance with your record book or have any questions contact Nick Gonzales at the Extension Office.

4-H MULTI COUNTY CAMP! July 7th – 9th

Brown County 4-H was invited to join other counties in District 7 to have a Multi County Camp in Brady, TX. This is a great opportunity and it will be a blast!

Date: July 7th – 9th, 2015

Place: Heart of Texas Bible Camp, Brady, TX

Registration Deadline: Monday, June 22, 2015 (Only 120 participants, from all the counties, can participate. It will be a FIRST COME, FIRST SERVE basis.)

Times: Begins: Tuesday, July 7th at 3:00 pm  Ends: Thursday, July 9th at 9:00 am

Cost: $50.00 per person, $45.00 per person if more than one per family participates.

Ages: Junior & Intermediate age 4-H members for the 2014-2015 4-H year. Senior Members may attend only as Teen Leaders with Agent approval.

To sign up for County Camp please come by or contact the Extension Office for registration forms. Remember this is on a FIRST COME, FIRST SERVE basis and spots are limited so please do not wait for the deadline to sign up! If you have any questions contact Nick Gonzales.

4-H Clothing & Textiles Project Opportunities:

Spring time involves many 4-H projects to include Clothing & Textiles.  The fashion show includes construction, buying and fashion story board contest. If you are interested please contact Kim Miles.

Pay a deposit by June 14th or full amount for July camps

Discount fee if you register for July camps before June 13th

Below is a list of all the camps that will be held at the Texas 4-H Center this summer.

  • Horizons – Grades 4-8, Dates of Camp June 28th – July 2nd, cost for camp is $280
  • County Camp I – Dates of Camp June 29th – July 1st , cost for camp is $180
  • Mission Possible – Dates of Camp July 7th – July 9th, cost for camp is $175
  • County Camp II– Dates of Camp July 6th – July 8th, cost for camp is $180
  • County Camp III – Dates of Camp July 8th – July 11th, cost for camp is $230
  • Prime Time I – Grades 5th-8th, Dates of Camp July 19th – July 22nd , cost for camp is $230
  • Prime Time II – Grades 2nd – 5th, Dates of Camp July 22nd – July 25th, cost for camp is $230
  • Prime Time Extreme – Grades 8th-11th, Dates of Camp July 27th – July 30th, cost for camp is $230

4-H ENROLLMENT IS OPEN ON 4-H CONNECT!

The enrollment process for the 2014-2015 4-H year will begin August 15, 2014. All 4-H families, new and returning, are encouraged to log in and enroll in order to become an official 4-H member.

As you begin your enrollment for the year, here are some tips in using 4-H CONNECT:

  • If you already have a profile DO NOT create another one!
  • If you lost your email and password call the county office so we can reset it for you.
  • An active membership will not be granted until the $20.00 participation fee is paid on 4-H   Connect!
  • You cannot register or participate in an event until your profile is ACTIVE.
  • When you are doing your re-enrollment for the 2014-2015 4-H Year please make sure you update your address, phone number, and e-mail address.
  • You can use your Fundraiser Voucher to pay your membership dues. To do this you will have to come into the extension office to enroll.
  • We are updating our e-mail database on November 1st so if you are not enrolled by then you will no longer receive newsletters updates via e-mail. Unless you notify the Extension Office prior to November 1st deadline.

Don’t wait until the last minute to enroll because after October 31st the cost increases to $25!!
