MANDATORY STATE 4-H ROUNDUP MEETING

There will be a mandatory roundup meeting on June 1st, 5:30p.m. at the Extension Office. We will be confirming travel arrangements and contest. Payment is due at the time of the meeting. If you have any questions contact Nick Gonzales.

MAJOR STOCK SHOW CHECKS

We have received truck and placing checks from Fort Worth Stock Show, San Antonio Stock Show, San Angelo Stock Show, Austin Stock Show and Houston Stock Show Truck Checks. If you participated in these major stock shows and placed in your class or put your animal on the truck please come by the office to pick up your check. If you have any questions please contact Nick Gonzales.

LEADERSHIP LAB

Hey 4-Her’s 13 and up!  This year’s Leadership Lab will be at T Bar M Resort in New Braunfels, June 24th -26th, 2015.  Registration will open on 4-H Connect May 4th to June 1st.  The cost for attendance will be $235 per youth.  This expense will cover dinner on the 24th, all meals on the 25th, and breakfast and lunch on the 26th.  This cost will also cover your room and other lab activities. You must be 13 by the day of Leadership LAB. SPACE IS LIMITED!!! Registration will be limited to the first 100 people that sign up! If you are interested please contact the Extension officer for more details.

DISTRICT 7 COUNCIL OPPURTUNITY

The District 4-H Council provides opportunities for youth involvement in 4-H program development. It is an advisory committee which assists in making plans and executing these plans at the district level.

Councils are responsible to the counties they represent and to the District 4-H Specialist. Their function is:

  • to advise the district Extension staff on programs for 4-H youth
  • facilitate representation on the Texas 4-H Council
  • maintain linkage with county 4-H councils assist with the development and implementation of district events and activities
  • provide opportunities for 4-H youth to learn democratic principles and procedures
  • interpret the 4-H program to the public

AGE REQUIREMENTS – The president, vice president and delegate-at- large must be between the ages of 16 and 18 as of August 31st of the calendar year in which they are elected. The second vice president, third vice president, secretary, public relations officer and parliamentarian must be between the ages of 15 and 18 as of August 31st of the calendar year in which they are elected.

In order to apply for a District 7 Council Officer position you must have served as a Brown County Council Officer. If you are interested in applying for District 7 Council Officer please contact Nick Gonzales so that we can provide you with an application.

County Record Book Due Dates It is that time to start putting your record book together. If you are planning on submitting a record book below are the important dates and information you will need.

    Category Submission to county office – June 4th
    Record Book Due for Review – June 15th

Guidelines:

    Submission to District contest
    Juniors (ages 8 – 10 years old): Two Record Books per category
    Intermediates (ages 11 – 13 years old): Two Record Books per category
    Seniors (ages 14 – 18 years old): One Record Book per category

To be eligible for Gold Star (senior), Silver Star (intermediate), or Bronze Star (junior) you must submit a Record Book.

4-H Clothing & Textiles Project Opportunities:

Spring time involves many 4-H projects to include Clothing & Textiles.  The fashion show includes construction, buying and fashion story board contest. If you are interested please contact Kim Miles.

    County Camp I – Dates of Camp June 29th – July 1st , cost for camp is $180
    Mission Possible – Dates of Camp July 7th – July 9th, cost for camp is $175
    County Camp II– Dates of Camp July 6th – July 8th, cost for camp is $180
    County Camp III – Dates of Camp July 8th – July 11th, cost for camp is $230

  • Prime Time I – Grades 5th-8th, Dates of Camp July 19th – July 22nd , cost for camp is $230

2015 – 2016 STEER/HEIFER VALIDATION

If you are planning on exhibiting a steer at the Brown County Youth Fair or a State Show it is mandatory that the steer is validated. If you are planning on showing a heifer that has not been validated please contact the Extension Office. Steer/Heifer validation will be on June 29, 2015 3:00p.m. at Bob Clarks pens. If you have any questions contact the Extension Office.

LIVESTOCK JUDGING CAMP OPPORTUNITIES

Blinn College Livestock Judging Camps

  • July 19-21, 2015 or July 22-24, 2015
  • Camp Fee $250
  • Registration due by July 8, 2015

Oklahoma State University Livestock Judging Camps

  • June 22-24, 2015 or June 25-27, 2015
  • Camp fee $275 if paid by June 1st ($50 late fee after June 1st ) – Includes housing, meals,  literature, and t-shirt
  • Limited to 70 participants for each camp
  • Must have completed 7th grade to attend camps

DISTRICT 7 4-H HORSE SHOW

The District 7 4-H Horse Show will be held on June 16, 2015 at the John Kuykendall Event Center Llano, Texas. You must validate your horse on 4-H Connect by May 1st in order to participate in the show. Registration opens on 4-H Connect May 18th –June 1st. The cost for the Horse Show will be, Regular Qualifying and Open Classes- $7 per entry / Futurity Divisions- $20. There will be a lot of great awards this year including buckles, awards for class winners, ribbons, exhibitor gift bags, and each exhibitor will get their name put into a drawing for door prizes. 2015 TEXAS 4-H ROPING SCHOOL

On June 21-25, 2015, the Statewide Texas 4-H Calf Roping and Break-A-Way School will be held in Stephenville, Texas.  The school will be held at the Tarleton State University Equine Arena. This event encourages young people in 4-H to develop leadership ability and to exercise their abilities in working with younger members in roping activities. Participation is open to all districts of the state, with applications being accepted on a first-come, first- serve basis with first priority to those boys and girls who are 12 years of age and older.

The cost for the school is $380.00. This will include group insurance, meals, lodging, stall rent for one horse and will cover the cost of practice calves used in the teaching process.  Most meals will be taken in the Tarleton State University Dining Hall.  All students will be housed at the University Dormitories.  Students will not be allowed to stay elsewhere. 4-H ENROLLMENT IS OPEN ON 4-H CONNECT!

The enrollment process for the 2014-2015 4-H year will begin August 15, 2014. All 4-H families, new and returning, are encouraged to log in and enroll in order to become an official 4-H member.

As you begin your enrollment for the year, here are some tips in using 4-H CONNECT:

  • If you already have a profile DO NOT create another one!
  • If you lost your email and password call the county office so we can reset it for you.
  • An active membership will not be granted until the $20.00 participation fee is paid on 4-H   Connect!
  • You cannot register or participate in an event until your profile is ACTIVE.
  • When you are doing your re-enrollment for the 2014-2015 4-H Year please make sure you update your address, phone number, and e-mail address.
  • You can use your Fundraiser Voucher to pay your membership dues. To do this you will have to come into the extension office to enroll.
  • We are updating our e-mail database on November 1st so if you are not enrolled by then you will no longer receive newsletters updates via e-mail. Unless you notify the Extension Office prior to November 1st deadline.

Don’t wait until the last minute to enroll because after October 31st the cost increases to $25!!
