Employees of both Bruner Auto Group and Stanley Dodge were surprised Wednesday morning to find evidence that would-be thieves had broken into their businesses overnight.

Brownwood Police state that the both burglaries seem to be related as the thieves entered both businesses in similar manners.

Jim Stanley, General Manager of Bruner Auto Group, said that someone entered the building and attempted to enter the safe before a hurried exit, possibly being scared off.

“They tried to get into our safe,” Stanley said.  “They weren’t getting into it because it is an old fashion bank-type vault, cement walls and ceiling plus a steel door.”

The damage was minor at Bruner, and nothing significant was taken.

“They messed up some ceiling tiles and pried a couple of doors open, but didn’t take any cars,” said Stanley.

The case was a little different at Stanley Dodge as cleaning crews found doors open along with offices and files rummaged through according to police reports.   The perpetrators also kicked a large hole in a wall in a hallway where a bathroom was located.

Although these two incidents are possibly related, a recent break-in at Big Country Ford is not felt to be related police say.    There have been no arrests as of the report and the investigation is ongoing.
