CoachBrandonDay2012The Howard Payne University football program today announced the hiring of former McMurry University assistant Brandon Day to the Howard Payne football staff.

Brandon Day spent the last two seasons as the linebacker and strength and conditioning coach at McMurry University. There he was a part of a staff that led McMurry to their first NCAA Playoff appearance, first playoff win and the most season wins in school history.

“Coach Day is a great addition to the Howard Payne football staff, he is very familiar with the ASC and NCAA III recruiting,” said head coach Roger Geise. “I am very pleased to have him on the Yellow Jacket football staff.”

Along with coaching two All-Conference linebackers last season, Coach Day helped develop and run the strength and conditioning program for McMurry and was a key member of the staff that recruited 80 freshmen to the football program.

“I am happy to be joining the Howard Payne family, said Brandon Day. “I look forward to working with a great coaching staff and an excellent group of young men to reassert ourselves as a dominant force in ASC.”

Before McMurry, Day was the 7th grade head coach at Copper junior high in Abilene. He also assisted the varsity coaches at Abilene Wylie high school with opponent scouting. Day graduated from the University of North Texas in 2009 with a B.A. in English Literature.
