Effective Friday, July 16, 2010, Thunderbird Bay Water System issued a recall of the Boil Water Notice that has been in effect since the Water System was placed under a temporary manager on June 4, 2010. The Boil Water Notice had been in effect since the Memorial Day weekend, when pressure drastically dropped in the system and the system was unable to produce any water for its customers for approximately one week.
After obtaining a raw water pump in addition to the one working pump, and an emergency pump, the surface water plant has been operating at capacity to replenish the standpipe and provide a relative constant pressure in the distribution lines approximating the minimum requirements of TCEQ. Bacteriological testing has been negative and the water has been determined safe to drink at this time. The negative tests have allowed the Operator and the Temporary Manager to issue a notice that the Boil Water Notice has been recalled. This is a welcome relief to the Water System and its customers.
The distribution system has suffered many leaks over the last several weeks, and the Operator, Gulf Utility Service, Inc., has worked diligently to repair those leaks and continues to receive notices of leaks in the System, and the Operator attempts to respond and repair each leak in a timely manner. The Temporary Manager and the Operator appreciate the assistance of the community and its customers in locating and reporting those leaks. As long as the leaks can be repaired timely, the water pressure should remain at a level sufficient to avoid the issuance of another Boil Water Notice. But, the Operator will remain vigilant and if issues arise, a notice will be sent immediately to the customers.
The Temporary Manager and Operator instituted the Drought Contingency Plan prior to the 4th of July weekend. The System was able to meet the needs of the customers during that time, but the Water System remains under a voluntary conservation request of its customers. The Water Plant remains operational and we are hopeful the residents will continue under the present conditions for the duration of the summer.
The Operator is attempting to read each meter to provide appropriate billing services to the residents. We are attempting to do our best to read each customer’s meter, and would appreciate the assistance of the residents when the meter readers are out trying to do their job.
We ask that everyone be vigilant and work together to insure continued water service as we address the remaining issues with the Water System.
