Bobby Haire, age 77 of Blanket passed away Friday April 16, 2010 in Abilene. Funeral services will be held at 2:00PM Tuesday April 20, 2010, in the Davis-Morris Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow in Eastlawn Memorial Park. Visitation is set for Monday April 19, 2010at Davis-Morris Funeral Home, from 6:00pm until 8:00pm.
Bobby G. Haire of Blanket, Texas was born in Cundiff, Jack County, Texas September 12, 1932. He was the oldest of three sons born to Roy C. and Lois Lee Smith Haire who married December 24, 1930. He was preceded in death by his parents, Roy C and Lois L. Haire, grandparents, Charles C. and Lucy Wicker Haire, and Jim Dance and Martha White Smith, and younger brother, Jerry Don Haire.
Surviving are his daughter Pamela G. Jones and her husband, Dennis, Blanket, Texas a son, Roy L. Haire and companion, Jake McDowell, Coleman, Texas. Granddaughters: Bobbi Haire, Stephenville, Brooke Haire, Blanket, Texas and Denise Jones, Blanket, Texas. His ex-wife and friend, Shirley Haire Smith, Early, Texas, brother, Charles J.Haire and his wife, Loretta, sister-in-law, Rhonda Haire, Abilene, Texas, and several nieces, nephews, cousins, and many friends.
Bobby grew up on farms in the Tahoka and O’Donnell area. After graduating from O’Donnell High School in 1951, he worked for GSI Seismographic Service then enlisted in the United States Navy serving November 1951-November 1955 and 4 years in naval reserves. After his Navy discharge, he went to work for Halliburton Oil Company in Eunice, New Mexico in 1956, working for two years, and then hiring on with El Paso Natural Gas Co. Feb. 1958 working and living in Hobbs, New Mexico, transferring to San Juan River Plant in Kirtland, New Mexico, working in gasoline plants in Kirtland and Chaco Canyon plants. He transferred from plant work to Heavy Maintenance, driving trucks and heavy equipment. After 30 years of service in El Paso – Burlington-Meridian Oil Company as it was later called, he retired in 1988. Always busy, Bobby enjoyed driving sand and cement trucks, driving for Allstate Trucking in Farmington, New Mexico, worked for a time in Las Vegas, Nevada and then moved to Lake Brownwood, Texas in 1989.
He continued to work part time. He enjoyed camping, fishing, horses, and music. He enjoyed playing and singing at musicals and nursing homes in the area and occasionally in church. Bobby was an active member of the San Juan County Sheriff’s Posse while living in the Farmington, New Mexico area. He was raised a Methodist, later joining the Baptist church and attended interdenominational churches. He was friendly and outgoing and will be dearly missed.
