The Family, Career and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA) Illustrated Talk team at Brownwood Middle School will advance to the state competition in Corpus Christi in April. The team received high scores from both judges at the Regional competition in Waco advancing them to State despite being the only middle school team competing in a good size field of high school teams.
Following the Regional competition, the team, coach, and sponsor were invited to present their illustrated talk to speech classes under Professor Hughes at Cisco College.
“The day at Cisco College was exciting from the very beginning when the team pulled up to see ‘Welcome BMS FCCLA’ on the college marque,” said team coach, Nancy Blackstock. “The entire day continued to be rewarding, beginning as the team presented their illustrated talk numerous times, enjoyed lunch in the college cafeteria, took a tour and visited with the college recruiter, and ended with them being introduced at half time of the college basketball game that evening.”
In addition, the team was accompanied by BMS FCCLA member Alvin Torres, the district voting delegate and Parliamentary Procedure President, who also advanced to state competition.
“The team has worked very hard and has done an outstanding job with their presentation,” stated Blackstock. “Everyone at BMS is extremely proud of this group of students.”
