Blanket High School sophomore Luke Kinkade earned 1st place at the UIL 1A State Golf Tournament which was held at the Lions Municipal Golf Course in Austin, Texas Wednesday and Thursday, April 27 and 28.
Kinkade shot a 75 both days for a total of 150 to win the gold medal in a field of 68 other participants.
Kinkade was hitting his driver really deep during the tournament. His short game was great making a birdie on holes 1, 2 and 7. The few times Kinkade did get into some trouble, he kept calm and was able to overcome it, finishing at 6 over par.
The Tiger golf team placed 8th in the tournament against 12 teams. Members of the team are Luke Kinkade, Toby Florence, Jason Schwab, and Liam Menchaca.Other teams competing included Happy, Douglass, Wink, Matador Motley County, Garden City, Throckmorton, McLean, Leakey, Robert Lee, Chester, and Iredell High Schools.
