The Brownwood ISD Board of Trustees and Superintendent Dr. Reece Blincoe reached an agreement at a special called meeting Thursday night as Blincoe resigned his position as superintendent of the district effective January 31, 2016 and will be on paid administrative leave effective on February 1, 2015.
Terms of the paid administrative leave were not available at the end of the more than two hour meeting held mostly in executive session.The board of trustees and Dr. Blincoe released the following statement:
“On behalf of the entire district, the Board of Trustees expresses its sincere appreciation to Dr. Blincoe for his efforts while serving as superintendent of this great school district and its wonderful students, parents and administrators, and for the many achievements and accomplishments of the entire District team during Dr. Blincoe’s tenure as Superintendent.
Dr. Blincoe thanks the present and past Board of Trustees for providing him with the opportunity to serve in the Brownwood Independent School District. A school district is measured by the commitment of the Board, staff and community to its children and their achievement. This District is indeed so committed. Dr. Blincoe would like to express his heartfelt appreciation to the staff and community for their support of the District’s programs and services during his term as Superintendent.
The Board extends its best wishes to Dr. Blincoe in his future endeavors. On its part, the Board will name an acting superintendent so as not to disrupt the District’s operations.”
After the meeting adjourned, Blincoe briefly spoke stating that he was going to take the time off to enjoy family and to decide what he wants to do with the rest of his life, “I recently attended a midwinter conference this week and I have lots of friends that extended offers to me, so I do have options,” said Blincoe.
He stated that his daughter Marisa is a senior at Brownwood High School this year and that the time off comes at a good time in their lives. “I’m going to take time off and go to stock shows. This will be the last round of stock shows that we’re going to be going to.”
Blincoe continued, stating that his family is doing well through this process. His wife Mary was present at the meeting for support.
Dr. Blincoe has served nearly 7 years as the superintendent of BISD.
