Brownwood ISD has named its Spotlight Teacher and Spotlight Staff Member for the month of December.
Congratulations to our December 2018 Spotlight teacher, Ms. Karey Morelock! Ms. Morelock is a Physical Education teacher at Woodland Heights Elementary, where she has been teaching for 12 years. She was born and raised in Brownwood, and continues to be a huge fan of the Brownwood LIONS. Ms. Morelock earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Early Childhood Education from Angelo State University and has a Master of Arts in Education/Curriculum and Instruction degree from the University of Phoenix. Before coming to Brownwood she worked as a Training and Curriculum Specialist at Goodfellow Air Force Base in San Angelo.
Ms. Morelock is known for her dedication to the health and well being of her students. By raising money and partnering with local businesses, she was instrumental in getting a track built at Woodland Heights Elementary. She actively leads her students in programs such as the Early Morning Running Club, 100-Mile Club, Jump Rope for Heart, and strives to teach life skills that students will use for the rest of their lives. Brownwood ISD is thankful to have teachers like Ms. Morelock who care so genuinely for our students, promote healthy and active lifestyles, and invest countless hours to give students a variety of opportunities to be active and healthy throughout the day.
Caryl Johnson is the December 2018 Spotlight staff member. Ms. Johnson is a teaching assistant for Life Skills at Coggin Intermediate School. She has studied Elementary Education at Howard Payne University and also has a license in Cosmetology. Ms. Johnson previously worked as a Youth Activities Supervisor at the Brownwood State School before coming to Brownwood ISD in 1999.
With a demonstrated willingness to help, no matter what the job, Ms. Johnson is known as a hard worker and a generous and caring person. She loves the kids and continues to do all she can to help them be successful. Brownwood ISD is grateful to have staff such as Ms. Johnson who show a strong dedication to supporting those around them and who go the extra mile to care for students and their success.
