Brownwood News – Brownwood ISD has named its Spotlight Teacher and Spotlight Staff Member for the month of October.

Congratulations to our October 2018 Spotlight teacher, Ms. Debra Walker! Ms. Walker is a 5th grade ELA/Reading teacher at Coggin Intermediate School, where she has been teaching for 18 years. She grew up in Brownwood and graduated from Brownwood High School. Ms. Walker has a Bachelor of Science degree from Angelo State University and a Master of Arts from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary. She worked for ten years at a residential treatment center for emotionally disturbed youth prior to beginning her teaching career.

With a “knack” for establishing genuine connections with her students, Ms. Walker is an inspiration to her peers. She is known to be calm and approachable, providing a solid foundation for building strong and positive relationships with all her students. Brownwood ISD is thankful to have teachers that genuinely care for students, and her daily commitment to encouraging students as they grow brings out the best in those she teaches. Ms. Walker, thank you for your dedication to the students of Brownwood ISD, and your example of character that contributes to their success.

Ms. Blanca Hardy is the October 2018 Spotlight staff member. Ms. Hardy is a custodian at Woodland Heights Elementary. She was born and raised in San Saba where she previously worked at San Saba Cap Factory and then in the cafeteria at San Saba ISD for 10 years before moving to Brownwood.

Ms. Hardy is friendly and always greets staff, students, and parents with a smile. She takes pride in her work, keeping areas within the school clean and ready for daily activities. Ms. Hardy continually goes above and beyond, noticing little things, and checking in with everyone to make sure they are taken care of.

Brownwood ISD is pleased to honor Ms. Hardy for the excellence in her work and her continued generosity to her peers, students, and staff at Woodland Heights Elementary. Thank you, Ms. Hardy, for making Brownwood ISD a clean, welcoming, and enjoyable place for students to learn, staff to work, and teachers to teach!
