boysandgirlsclubThe Brownwood Independent School District’s board of trustees unanimously passed a resolution Monday night authorizing the transfer of ownership of the old South Elementary property from BISD to the Boys and Girls Club of Brown County.

The Boys and Girls Club have been occupants of the building by leasing the property from the school district for some time, but requested earlier in the year the possibility of acquiring the property.  The district researched the issue and determined that a process was available for them to donate the property.

On April 12th, BISD held a public hearing regarding the issue where they received overwhelming public support for donating the property.  The property, located at 1701 Avenue L, included a total of 6.21 acres of land and remaining buildings from the old South Elementary campus which was mostly demolished several years ago.

The deed that conveys the ownership from BISD to the Boys and Girls Club outlines that the new owners cannot sell the property in the future and the property must always be used for public purposes.

The Boys and Girls Club of Brown County is a nonprofit organization that offers an affordable after school program to area youth.   They offer a variety of activities including sports, recreation, and a learning center.
