ChessWinners2011

In a recent plea to area residents, BISD Superintendent Dr. Reece Blincoe wrote the following words to encourage support for the First Move Chess program that is taught to all BISD 2nd and 3rd grade students.  To help “put a face to the program”, pictured above are the top 18 students in the 2011 BISD Chess Tournament held at the end of the 2010-2011 school year.

Friends,

As we face times of economic uncertainty we are doing all we can to continue the programs that are near and dear to our hearts; First Move Chess is a prime example.  For those of you not familiar with this program, we teach chess to every single 2nd and 3rd grader in BISD!  Every student not only learns the game of chess, but also takes home a complete chess set to keep forever.  Chess helps students academically by helping them focus, visualize, think ahead, weigh options, analyze, plan, and think abstractly – all skills they will need to be successful students and successful adults in the real world.

Would you please partner with us by supporting this program?  For a small donation you can help us continue our chess program.  By clicking on the following link you can donate as little as $3 for a student and help our program continue to thrive!
