Brownwood News – The Region 15 Education Service Center has selected the Brownwood Independent School District’s Board of Trustees as the 2018 Regional School Board of the Year, representing districts with more than 1,000 students.

Nominations were submitted to the Region 15 Education Service Center and were reviewed using ten criteria.  The criteria used to evaluate nominees included:

  • Functions as a policy-making body;
  • Adherence to adopted board policies;
  • Support for educational performance in accordance with state-established standards;
  • Support for educational improvement projects and school transformation initiatives;
  • Commitment to a code of ethics;
  • Provision of financial support for the school system;
  • Participation in workshops and other performance improvement programs;
  • Placement of the welfare of children served by the school system above personal or political motives;
  • Public relations efforts, including community awareness;
  • Maintenance of harmonious and supportive relationships among board members.

“Our BISD Board of Trustees exemplifies all of the characteristics of this honor.  Their commitment to sound policy-making, adherence to the code of ethics and oversight of our educational processes and financial health is outstanding.  The men and women of our board dedicate themselves to the district selflessly and do a wonderful job in supporting our efforts.  It is a pleasure to nominate them as a board for this honor,” said Dr. Joe Young, Brownwood ISD Superintendent.

The final award selection will occur in August when the Texas Association of School Administrator’s School Board Awards Committee will meet to select up to five boards to be recognized as Honor Boards.  Representatives from these Honor Boards will be interviewed at the TASA/TASB Convention in September, with the winner being announced on September 29, 2018 in Austin, Texas.
