A reception was held at the Brownwood High School band hall Monday evening to welcome newly hired Brownwood High School Head Band Director David Lambert and his wife Lesley, who will serve as his assistant band director.

Students, band boosters, parents and Brownwood ISD faculty and staff were present to welcome the Lamberts who are coming to Brownwood from Pittsburg, Texas.  Hired just last week, Lambert has had a busy week moving to the area and meeting students and leaders of the band.

“Brownwood is a very friendly community.  When we arrived with our U-Haul, there were 25 people ready to help us and within about 30 minutes, it was unloaded,” said Lambert.

Lambert stated that he and Leslie had received the keys to the band hall and their office at 8:00am Monday and were able to meet some of the band members and leaders during the day.  He stated that they are very excited to see what the coming school year will bring.

“We are looking forward to and are excited,” said Lambert.  “I can’t promise we will make it to state this year, but we’ll get out and work hard each day and help the students to be the best they can be every day.  We’re looking forward to a great year.”

Brownwood Middle School principal Bryan Allen explained that he was honored to be on the hiring committee to find a new band director and that there were many qualified candidates.

“In the process, we had some great candidates, but he really stood out very well among the rest of them,” said Allen.  “We’re really fortunate and very happy to have David.”

Brownwood ISD Superintendent Dr. Reece Blincoe explained that the district was excited to hire Lambert, who is qualified to continue the success of the band program.

“When all was said and done, it was an easy selection.  There were a lot of great candidates to make our selection from; however we felt he was above the rest,” said Blincoe.   “The BHS band has had a history of success and Lambert has some great ideas and has done really, really well in the past.  We want to maintain the success that our band has had but also to raise the bar.  I’m excited about the decision.”

Blincoe and Lambert stated that interviews for another assistant band director, who will also serve as the Brownwood Middle School band director, are being held this week and the position will be filled by Monday.  Blincoe stated that there were approximately 25 applicants and out of those Lambert chose 5 or 6 to interview.

Lambert has 19 years of experience in directing high school music programs. In his career, Mr. Lambert has won U.I.L. sweepstakes awards 17 times, been recognized as top area band 5 times, State Marching Band twice – including a first runner up performance.  Lambert has also led 3 TMEA State Honor Bands including a finalist twice and a 1st runner up once.
