EastElemThe Brownwood Independent School District board of trustees unanimously approved a bid to add four new classrooms to East Elementary.   Waldrop Construction was awarded the construction project for a total cost of $944,353 for the addition to the school as well as technology upgrades.  A total of six contractors submitted bids for the project.  The accepted bid was chosen based not only on price, but company qualifications as well.

BISD Superintendent Reece Blincoe said in this and previous meetings that the expansion is needed due to the growing number of students and student transfer requests the district is receiving, especially in the elementary school level.  The district estimates that they turned down 30-40 transfer requests at the beginning of the year due to lack of classroom space.

Construction on the addition is scheduled to begin just after the first of the year and be completed by August 1st, in time for the next school year.

District officials said that they allocated $975,000 for the construction project before the bids were submitted and will still have over $3.2 million in their fund balance.
