A memorial service for Billy Wright, age 79, of Brownwood, Texas will be held 3:00 PM Monday, at the West Austin Avenue Church of Christ, 900 West Austin Avenue, Brownwood, Texas. He was cared for by his daughter Kathleen, a nurse who came to stay with him during his final days. He passed away Friday, December 13, 2013 at his residence.
Billy Don Wright was born in Fairview, Texas on September 5, 1934 to William Stanley and Lilly McKinney Wright. On, May 29, 1957 he married Virginia McClurg in Wichita Kansas. Formerly of Rochelle, Texas he moved to Brownwood in 1985 where he was a member of the Church of Christ. Mr. Wright was a veteran of the U.S. Army, taught bible study, was a boy scout leader and a mechanic. He was known to fix and teach all the neighborhood children how to repair their bicycles and play the guitar, a hobby he truly loved.
Survivors include his wife Virginia Wright of Brownwood, Texas; sons William Wright and wife Joanna of Georgia, David Wright and wife Susan of San Angelo, Texas, Johnny Wright and wife Kay of Brownwood, Texas; one daughter Kathleen Carter of Avinger, Texas; fourteen grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren; sisters Karen Kelley and husband Joe of Arkansas, Wanda Rogers of Kerrville, Texas, Nelva Turner and husband Jack of Abilene, Texas. He was preceded in death by his parents, one son Larry Wright; a son-in-law Dale Carter; a grandson Robert Carter and by two brothers L.J. and Jack Wright.
