BillieJoTysonA funeral service will be held in remembrance of Billie Jo Tyson at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, November 20 at First Baptist Church of Blanket. Visitation will be Friday evening from 6:30 to 8:00 p.m. at Netherton Funeral Home, located at 1412 Belle Plain.

Her Creator and Redeemer called Billie Jo home on November 16, 2010, just one week before her 83rd birthday. At the time of her death she was residing in Zephyr, Texas, where she had lived with her daughter and family for the past ten years.

Billie Jo was born on November 23, 1927 in Brown County, Texas to Marcus and Zillah Harris. All of her younger years were spent in Brown County. After graduating from Early High School, she married Orville Johnnie Tyson on January 19, 1946. When Orville died in 2001, they had been married for 56 years. Billie Jo and Orville were faithful and loving parents to their children Ron and Tami. In 1964, when she was 39 years old, the family moved to Chugiak, Alaska, where they lived until 1975.

Through the years, Billie Jo had experience as a housewife, seamstress, and bookkeeper. In 1975 she and her husband Orville moved to Blanket, where they opened, owned, and operated Tyson Mart and Café. She was blessed with seven grandchildren and in her later years with eleven great-grandchildren. She was looking forward to her twelfth! Billie Jo enjoyed sharing her life with family and friends and could easily be persuaded to join in a friendly game, especially if it was 42!

Although Billie Jo had been baptized and joined a church when she was a teenager, it was at the age of 42 that she was redeemed by the blood of Jesus Christ, who loved her and gave His life for her. When she lived at Blanket, she was a faithful member of First Baptist Church of Blanket and was later a part of Southside Baptist Church in Brownwood.

Billie Jo leaves behind many friends and relatives who loved her dearly. Family members who will miss her include her daughter and husband Tami and Woody (Glen) Wood, along with their five children and families: Anna Moreno, her husband Jimmy, and their children Hannah, Rebekah, Josiah, and Sarah; Wiley, his wife Carolyn, and their children Noah and Benjamin; Amy Hamilton and her husband James; Abby Wood; and Caleb Wood. She also leaves behind her son Ron Tyson and his wife Rhonda, along with their two sons and families: Tracy Tyson, his wife Lindsay, and their children Elia, Jude, and Timothy; Mark Tyson, wife Kera, and their children Ivy and Salem. She also leaves behind sister-in-law Dorothy Warren and her husband Ray. Billie Jo was preceded in death by her husband Orville, and seven older brothers and sisters.

The family would like to express thanks to CMS Home Health Care and Solaris Hospice. We praise God that nothing can separate us from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.
