Big Brothers Big Sisters of Brown County is getting ready for the 5th Annual Bowl for Kids’ Sake on April 16th. This key fundraiser enables BBBS to serve the children of Brown County with one-to-one mentors.
Bowling teams are made up of 5-6 bowlers. Each team member is asked to raise $100 or more between now and April 16th . That amounts to each participant asking 10 people for $10. Teams can raise money individually or collectively. There will be two sessions for teams to come celebrate their efforts at Bowl for Kids’ Sake on Saturday, April 16th. Teams can bowl at 12 noon or 7 p.m. at Academy Lanes. Teams may choose the session they prefer on a first-come basis. Teams can be registered online at bowlforkidssake.org or by calling the BBBS office at 325-643-5600.
Academy Lanes is sponsoring the bowling and Cici’s Pizza will provide a meal for the celebration. T-shirts, awards, prizes and a silent auction will be made possible through other local donors. Sponsorships are still needed to underwrite the event.
BBBS began serving children in Brown County in 2007. Last year 74 children benefited from the mentoring program, yet 27 children are still waiting for a Big Brother or Big Sister. More children are being referred to the program each week. Money raised from the bowling event will help to make these matches possible.
Research shows that through the positive impact of a match relationship, children are more likely to graduate from high school and less likely to use drugs, alcohol or engage in high-risk behaviors. In short, they will have more opportunity to reach their highest potential with the encouragement that an additional adult mentor can add to their life. Volunteers are asked to spend time with a child at least twice a month.
