The Howard Payne women’s basketball team dominate and only allow 13 second half points in a 58-32 win over the Lady Mountaineers of Schreiner University Thursday evening.
On the game the Lady Jackets shot 40 percent on 21-53 shooting, including 4-14 from the arc, and 12-20 from the free throw line. Schreiner was 28 percent from the floor, and a dismal 19 percent on 4-21 shooting from three point line.
HPU committed 21 turnovers to Schreiner’s 28. The Lady Jackets also out-rebound Schreiner 42 to 28.
Although poor shooting plagued the first half there were five lead changes in the first half. Schreiner took the lead twice only to give it up and fall behind seven at the half, 26-19. Elaine Hobbs led Howard Payne with 12 points and three steals; Hope Hohertz added 11 rebounds and six points. Brittany Zamora had 5 steals and Tiffany Warner added 4 assists.
Schreiner was headed by Candi Althaus with 11 points, three rebounds, and two assists.
The HPU women go to 14-4 overall and 10-4 in ASC conference play. Lady Mountaineers fall to 0-18 overall and 0-14 in the ASC.
The next game for the Lady Jackets is at the Coliseum, Jan. 30, at 1 p.m. against Texas Lutheran University.
