Tuesday night, January 19th was not an ordinary meeting for Brownwood High School’s FCCLA (Family Career and Community Leaders of America) and TAFE (Texas Assoc. of Future Educators) meeting. This night was dedicated to one of their many service projects. At this meeting members made pillowcases and blankets for kids in Brown County that have recently been diagnosed with cancer. The students made 2 pillowcases and 6 blankets.
“These organizations partnered with Hope from the Heart in Brown County to make sure our kids have a little comfort while dealing with everyday life that goes along with dealing with cancer. This time around was a little different in the fact that one of the kids dealing with cancer is their classmate and friend,” stated Mitzi Cockerham, the FCS (Family Consumer Science) Teacher, and FCCLA and TAFE Advisor. “Teaching kids to serve people is an asset in life. I truly believe it is better to give than receive and I am trying to teach these kids the same thing.”
