2011NatlMeritScholarsApproximately 34,000 students throughout the nation are being recognized for their exceptional academic promise, receiving the award of Commended Student from the National Merit Scholarship Corporation (NMSC).  From among 1.5 million students who entered the National Merit Scholarship Program by taking the 2010 Preliminary SAT/National Merit Qualifying Test, Brownwood High School students Melissa Rmeili and Sarah Underwood received a Letter and Certificate of Commendation. This distinguishes them as scholastically talented seniors.

“These are extremely intelligent ladies,” BHS Principal Bill Faircloth said. “They are absolutely wonderful and this is a great honor for them.”

Placing among the top five percent of the nation’s seniors will not only open up opportunities for these students, but encourages their potential, their educators, and individual families.

“The young men and women being named Commended Students have demonstrated outstanding potential for academic success,” commented a spokesperson for NMSC. “These students represent a valuable national resource; recognizing their accomplishments, as well as the key role their schools play in their academic development, is vital to the advancement of educational excellence in our nation. We hope that this recognition will help broaden their educational opportunities and encourage them as they continue their pursuit of academic success.”
