The Brownwood High School one-act play production of “The Mill on the Floss” walked away with a first place finish as the advancing school at the District 8-3A Contest held March 27th, at Liberty Hill High School.
The panel of judges called the play bold, creative and extremely well-acted. “I’m extremely proud of the kids,” said Brownwood High School theatre teacher, Larry Mathis. “They performed exceptionally well and really drew the audience and the adjudicators into the play.”Brownwood also earned multiple individual honors; Trey Fawcett received Best Actor for his role as Phillip, and Faith Bailey and Megan Pointer were selected to the All Star Cast. Haley Lawson was awarded Honorable Mention All Star Cast, and a special tech award was presented to stage manager, Mercedes Sliger.
“The kids have really bought into the various creative risks we take with the show,” noted Mathis. “In fact, their ideas are largely responsible for the success of the show.”
The group will travel to the Area competition at Angelo State University on April 12th. A public performance of the play is also scheduled for Tuesday, April 8th at 7:30 p.m. in the BHS auditorium.
