oklahomaRodgers & Hammerstein’s classic musical Oklahoma! will be unveiled at the Dorothy McIntosh Fine Arts Center, January 22 and 23, by the Brownwood High School Fine Arts department.

The production is set in Western Indian territory in the early 1900‘s.  It is a high-spirited singin’ and dancin’ performance about the rivalry between local farmers and cowboys.  The classic love story of handsome cowboy, Curly (Dylon Evans), and winsome farm girl, Laurey (Meredith Underwood), tells the tale of the bumpy and and sometimes surprising journey of romance.  The show is a must-see for music and theater lovers, as well as anyone looking for a toe-tapping good time.  “We are excited about Oklahoma’s premiere at BHS.  The students have worked incredibly hard and we are thrilled to showcase their talent,” said director Dean Kiesling.

Oklahoma! has a cast and crew of over 60 students.  Directors are high school instructors, Dean Kiesling, Donnetta Shelton and Tricia Garrett. Choreography is by student, Keeley Gowin, a BHS junior.  Along with leads Dylon Evans (Curly) and Meredith Underwood (Laurey), supporting roles are Kinsey Colegrove as Aunt Eller, Cooper Morelock plays Will Parker, Shelby Johnson is Ado Annie, Johnathan Cox plays Jud Fry, and Kc Poland is Ali Hakim.

Oklahoma! opens on Friday, January 22 at 7:30pm, and runs Saturday at 2:30 and 7:30pm.  Tickets are $5 each and may be purchased at the Brownwood High School, the Brownwood ISD Administration Office and the Brownwood Area Chamber of Commerce.  Tickets are also available at the door prior to the show, at the Dorothy McIntosh Fine Arts Center in the Brownwood High School.
