Brownwood High School Key Club surprised BHS Secretary, Norlene Gleaton, with a $2000 check on Thursday, April 11th. The donation is the result of a t-shirt fundraiser the club put together to help Gleaton, who was recently diagnosed with cancer.
Students gathered in a conference room at the high school and presented the check to Gleaton, who knew about the shirt, but was unaware of the presentation and the amount that was raised. “God has really blessed me,” Gleaton said as she hugged and thanked the students.Pamela Rider, BHS Key Club advisor, expressed appreciation for the many people who donated, purchased shirts, and helped with the overall effort. “This is the result of a variety of different people,” said Rider. “We sold shirts throughout the community and received support from individuals, local churches, and businesses. Early Key Club also joined us in the effort and Willie’s T’s printed the shirts and gave us a great price to work with.”
Gleaton is expected to begin cancer treatment in the coming days, and expressed her gratitude for additional funding that will help ease her medical costs.
