NationalQuiltBlockDesignContest

Brownwood High School students enrolled in Mrs. Connie Sliger’s Fashion Design class at Brownwood High School recently received a third place award and an honorable mention for student blocks submitted in the National Quilt Museum block contest.

Each year Moda Fabrics and National Quilt Museum sponsor a nationwide quilt block challenge for students of all ages, nationwide.  Quilt blocks were entered from 19 states in the high school age group.  Moda Fabrics donates three pieces of fabric for the contest and all must be incorporated into the block design.

BHS Fashion Design students, Jon Wardenburg, Abigail Dean, Paige Goodwin, Courtney Watson, and Sarah Benson, entered the student block design contest during the latter part of the fall semester, and were recently notified of the block placings.

Jon Wardenburg’s block, “Mr. Turtle” placed third in his age category and he was awarded a check for $75. Wardenburg donated the winnings to Esmeralda Lara, a Brownwood High School student who is undergoing treatment for cancer.

Paige Goodwin and Abigail Dean’s block, “Picture Perfect” received an honorable mention in the high school age category.

Courtney Watson and Sarah Benson received a participant certificate and ribbon.
