Brownwood News – The BHS UIL Congress debate team competed at their regional competition in San Angelo on Thursday, November 7. The team swept the first five spots from the other 4A competition.

Individual results were as follows:

Mo Goff – 1st Place

Maddie Weldon – 2nd Place

Josh Schwing – 3rd Place

Ava Sparks-Hansen – 4th Place

Lauren Womack – 5th Place

“For the competition students had to create legislation,” explained BHS teacher and debate coach, Kenan Boland. “Our two bills were over a carbon tax and a universal basic income. They also had to research 14 other pieces of legislation and be able to make arguments for or against each one. This was our first year to compete in Congress debate and BHS was represented well.”

The top three will move on to the state competition in January.
