Beginning April 29th, 2011 members of the Brownwood High School graduating class of 1961 will hold a reunion, celebrating their 50th year since graduation.  According to Sondra (Powell) Cadenhead, Chairperson of the ’61 Reunion Committee, the event will take place over a three day period, and will be conducted at the 4-H Conference Center at Lake Brownwood.

“Our class has been very close through the years since graduation.  One of the reasons for that is of course the fact that the 1960/61 Lions football team won the state championship that year,” said Cadenhead.  She also noted that the Class of ’61 was the last to graduate from the old building on Austin Avenue. Finally, she noted that for many years the class had been so fortunate to have members Sherry (Abbott) Manley and Donn German creating and distributing newsletters and roster updates to all members.

“Many individuals have been very active in planning our reunion” stated Cadenhead.  As an example, she mentioned the life story booklet being put together for each member.  “It’s been exciting to read about the lives of my classmates, since we parted 50 years ago.  Their many accomplishments are truly fascinating.”

The Reunion Committee is urging all 1961 class members to plan on attending the event.  Reservation information can be obtained from Cadenhead at sondracadenhead@comcast.net, or phone numbers 770-719-9163 or 713-557-2134.  Other committee members are Carolyn Masters Hart, Tommy Fine, Ann Long Jones, Judy Ellis Carnes and Larry Spore.
