Press Release – The Brownwood High School Cheerleaders recently returned home from UCA Cheer Camp at University of North Texas in Denton. While at camp, the cheerleaders competed in a game-day-style competition consisting of a sideline cheer, crowd-involved cheer, a band-dance routine and an extreme-dance routine.

 

All material was new and taught while they were at the four-day camp. On the last day of camp, the BHS Cheerleading Program won the highly regarded Leadership Award “Inspiring Leadership On and Off the Field”, an award whose recipient is chosen by the other teams attending camp.

Varsity Cheerleaders were named Overall Game Day Champions in the Varsity Division and took 1st Place in Extreme Routine, won 3 Spirit Sticks as well as taking home UCA’s coveted “Top Banana” Spirit Award. The Junior Varsity Cheerleaders were also named Overall Game Day Champions in their division and won 1st Place in Extreme Routine as well as earning two Spirit Sticks.

The Freshman Cheerleading Squad took 4th Place in Game Day Routine and earned two Spirit Sticks as well. Brownwood’s Mascot, Leo the Lion won the Game Day Championship and Most Spirited Mascot.

The following Cheerleaders were selected as All-American Cheerleaders Preslee Maxfield, Caitlin Tucker, Madison Arial, Trinitee Skelton, Aleska Ramirez, Karly Harper, Nicole Bowden and Trinity Jackson.

Karly Harper and Caitlin Tucker each received the prestigious staff selected “Pin It Forward” award for exemplifying “Why America Needs Cheerleaders” additionally Trinity Jackson and Alyssa Salazar received a participant selected “Pin It Forward” award.

Finalists in the Jump-Off competition were Emily Carnes and Jump-Off Champion Trinity Jackson. Captains Karly Harper and Nicole Bowden were selected to receive an application to tryout for the UCA Staff.

Brownwood Cheerleaders will host their Mini Cheer Camp for kids in Pre-K through sixth grade from 9 to 11:30 a.m. July 25-27th. This year the camp will be located at Brownwood Middle School and participants may register as late as July 25th and is $40. Applications for Spirit Sisters will be available for the first time during Mini Cheer Camp and will be accepted on a first come first serve basis.

Finally, 2017-18 BHS Cheerleaders & Friends Calendars will be available for sale next week for $15 and will remain available through September or until sold out! Please support the BHS Cheer Program’s largest fundraiser.
