Press Release from BISD – Forty-three (43) freshman Advancement Via Individual Determination (AVID) students from Brownwood High School (BHS) recently visited the Howard Payne University campus. Students began the day by attending a presentation by P.J. Gramling, HPU Director of Admissions. Mrs. Gramling discussed the admissions process, scholarship opportunities, and the importance of GPA. Students then toured the HPU campus and ended the morning by eating lunch in the HPU Cafeteria.
Following lunch the group visited the HPU Academy of Freedom, the Girling Center for Social Justice, and listened to a presentation by HPU Professor, Dr. Paul Lilly.
Four BHS AVID sponsors accompanied the students: Coach Shay Easterwood and 3 HPU Alumni; Kristina Owen, Gene Brandstetter, and Joey Wilburn.
Plans are being made for AVID students to visit Tarleton State University or Texas A&M this spring.
