With a generous sponsorship from the Brownwood Arts Council, 45 Brownwood High School and selected Brownwood Middle School choir students enjoyed an “opera”-tunity of a lifetime. On Saturday, April 28th, they boarded a charter bus to Fort Worth to eat at Johnny Carino’s and then enjoyed their very first opera, “The Magic Flute” by Mozart, at Dallas’ Winspear Opera House.

For many of the students it was their first opportunity to travel outside of Brownwood and be introduced to a musical world unlike anything they had ever seen. The opera, which is known for its comedy and its memorable arias, was a hit with all the students and erased many, previously conceived false stereotypes of opera.

“It was truly an unforgettable night,” said BHS Choir Director, Patricia Garrett, who added that she will look back on this evening as a highlight of the school year.
