BFDlogoSmallReports released for the week of December 25-31, 2011 from the Brownwood Fire Department indicate responses to 18 medical emergencies, 5 motor vehicle accidents, 12 fire calls, 2 hazardous materials calls and 1 citizen’s complaint.

Sunday, December 25

*10:06pm – BFD responded to a chimney fire at a residence in the Good Shepherd neighborhood.   Firefighters arrived on scene to find fire in the chimney of the residence.  Ventilation was established and the fire was extinguished.  Fire department personnel checked for extension inside the attic but nothing was found. 

Monday, December 26

*9:06am – BFD was dispatched to a residence in the Good Shepherd neighborhood regarding smoldering debris which had rekindled inside the fireplace chute. The debris was extinguished and residents were advised to contact a chimney sweep.

*1:44pm – BFD was called to a fire on Indian Creek Drive. Upon arrival the fire was discovered to be a controlled burn.

*8:05pm – BFD was dispatched to a fire call in the 3500 block of Golding Road. Firefighters arrived on scene to find a resident burning trash in a barrel.  The occupant was informed of city burn codes and the fire was extinguished.

*9:05pm – BFD responded to a call regarding the smell of smoke in the 3400 block of Durham Avenue. After an investigation was performed, nothing was found.

Tuesday, December 27

*6:31am – BFD was dispatched to a fire call in the 3700 block of S Hwy 377.   A light under an awning burned out and caught the fixture on fire.  Power was shut off to the light and an electrician was contacted.

*10:58am – BFD responded to a two-vehicle accident in the 600 block of Center Avenue.  Firefighters checked for injuries and provided first aid.

*12:03pm – BFD was called to a two-vehicle accident in the 1500 block of Main Blvd.  Firefighters checked for injuries and provided first aid.

*5:47pm – BFD was dispatched to a fire call in the 1900 block of Coggin Avenue.  Fire crews arrived on scene to find the occupant starting a fire for a BBQ. 

Thursday, December 29

*7:59pm – BFD responded to the report of a kitchen fire in the 1000 block of Cordell Street.  Upon arrival, fire fighters found very light smoke coming from the front door.  Fire fighters made entry and extinguished the fire. The thermal cameral was used to check for any extension of the fire.  The kitchen was overhauled and cleaned up.

Friday, December 30

*4:02pm –BFD responded to a three vehicle accident at the intersection of Main and Baker.  Fire crews checked for injuries and provided first aid.

*4:57pm – BFD was dispatched to a two-vehicle accident in the 400 block of Commerce.  Fire crews checked for injuries and provided first aid.

*5:17pm – BFD responded to a motor vehicle accident in the area of Main and Baker where a bicycle was hit by a vehicle. Firefighters checked for injuries and provided first aid.

*7:37pm – BFD was called to a hazardous material call in the 4100 block of 9th Street.  A carbon monoxide alarm was activating.  Fire crews replaced the batteries.

*8:07pm – BFD received a citizen’s complaint in the 4400 block of Mimosa Drive.  Upon arrival, firefighters found a very small fire in an approved container with a cover.

Saturday, December 31

*11:41am – BFD was called to a fire in the 2000 block of County Road 134.  The fire was determined to be a small brush/grass fire which was extinguished.

*6:08pm – BFD was dispatched to a hazardous materials call in the 2000 block of Avenue H to investigate the smell of gas in the area. Nothing was detected.

*7:09pm – BFD responded to a fire call in the 1300 block of Brooks Street.  Fire crews arrived to find the occupant cooking on a grill.

*7:50pm – BFD was dispatched to a fire in the 2200 block of W. Main Street where they found an outside trash/waste fire and crews enforced burn codes.

*11:49pm – BFD was dispatched to a fire in the 2900 block of N Hwy 279 regarding unauthorized burning.  Firefighters enforced the burn codes.
