Betty was born on June 27th 1938 to Mamie and H.E. Hanks in Brownwood, where she was raised. Soon after graduating from Brownwood High School in 1956, Betty moved to Fort Worth with her longtime friend June and went to work for Bell Telephone Company.   While living in Fort Worth, she met the love of her life, Jason Vedder, who was stationed at Carswell Air Force Base.  Betty and Jason would go to many dances and social events with friends prior to getting married on June 1st, 1962.  To their union they had one daughter, Ethel.  Betty was a wonderful wife and mother, always doing things for them.  She would often make their favorite deserts or meals and loved them both unconditionally.  Betty was very talented and loved sewing, painting baking, cooking, gardening, and doing many different crafts.  She loved to play 42 and Chinese checkers.

Betty was always taking food to different church members and friends when they were ill or had lost a loved one.  She loved to organize with her siblings family reunions, and they always involved many games and lots of food. Betty was always busy doing something.  She was never known as an idle person and loved spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.  She would decorate their birthday cakes, play games, sing silly songs and blow up balloons with them.  She would often take them to church with her and just have fun with them.

Betty and Jason enjoyed square dancing and many other dance styles in their younger years.  They liked to travel and enjoyed going to different musicals from time to time.  Upon moving to Brownwood in 1972, Betty became the bookkeeper and a partner in Hanks Plumbing with her siblings.

Betty is survived by her husband, Jason Vedder, her daughter, Ethel Crumpton and husband Darrell of Brownwood; her sisters, Nelda Minica of Blanket, Francis Montez and husband Tony of Brownwood, a sister-in-law, Gail Hanks of Germany; her grandchildren, Jason McBride, Joshua McBride, Jeffrey McBride and wife Nora, Jacinda Gordon and husband Kevin, all of Brownwood, and Darrell McBride and wife Amy of Norman, OK; 14 grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
