Betty Louise Darby Merriman, age 70, of Brownwood, passed away Wednesday, October 28, 2015; in her home surrounded by her family. Funeral services will be held at 2:00pm, Friday, October 30, 2015, in the Davis-Morris Funeral Home Chapel. A private burial will be carried out in Greenleaf Cemetery.
Betty was born on February 6, 1945, in Abilene, TX, to Ted and Betty Sue Darby. Betty was married to William Nicholas Merriman on July 25, 1992, in Wichita Falls, TX. Betty grew up in Abilene, TX. She was very close to her parents and two sisters. She loved spending time with their extended family at her grandparents’ farm outside of Abilene in Caps, TX. Betty was an avid gardener and achieved Master Gardener status and was very active in the local Gardening Club. She also had a deep love for animals and raised Labrador Retrievers. She was a volunteer at the Humane Association. She was at her happiest working with the earth and with animals. Betty attended Howard-Payne University in Brownwood, TX. She was a voracious reader, always having a book or her Kindle in hand, sharing book recommendations with anyone who would listen. She also loved Sudoku and any brain-teasers. She loved to crochet, needlepoint, and sew, regularly contributing her creations to family and friends. She crocheted beautiful baby blankets for all of her grandchildren.Betty is survived by her husband, Nick Merriman; her children, Anson Stowers and Ashley Stowers, and three step-daughters: Melissa Alread, Melaney Derden, and Amy Bush; her grandchildren, Alexander Stowers, Jordan Alread, Braun Alread, Mackenzie Alread, Aidan Alread, Lyle Derden, Will Derden, Alex Bush, Merritt Bush; her siblings, Wilora Darby Tucker and Peggy Lynn Darby Kelly; and her pets, Mousse, Maggie, Fancy & Jules.
