The Howard Payne University Woman’s Club honored Betty Broome, HPU’s executive assistant to the president, as the recipient of the Yellow Rose Award. The honor was announced at the Yellow Rose Scholarship Luncheon held in the university’s Grace Chapel on Thursday.
Broome will retire in May with 26 years of dedicated service to the university. In addition to her work with university administrators, she has been the recording secretary at countless meetings of HPU’s Board of Trustees since 1989, and her dedication to HPU includes work on numerous university committees. She has received awards in appreciation of her service to the university, including being named Staff Member of the Year in 2004. While working fulltime at HPU, she also pursued and earned a Bachelor of Business Administration degree from the university, which she received in 1995.“Betty is a faithful friend to the countless people who are proud and privileged to know her,” said Dr. Diana Ellis, HPU first lady and Woman’s Club president. “I am pleased and proud to present this year’s Yellow Rose Award to my dear friend.”
Broome and her husband, Clois, have three daughters, three granddaughters and three grandsons.
The Yellow Rose Award is presented annually to a woman who exhibits exemplary leadership; who supports the university; and who represents Christian values and beliefs foundational to the university.
