Bettie Lou Carpenter, age 82, of Brownwood went to be with the Lord Friday, August 15, 2014 at Songbird Lodge after a brief illness.
Services for Bettie will be held at 2:00 P.M. Tuesday, August 19, 2014 at Blaylock Funeral Home Chapel with Bill Slaymaker officiating, interment will follow at Greenleaf Cemetery. Visitation for the family will be Monday evening from 6-8 p.m. at Blaylock Funeral Home.
Bettie was born on September 26, 1931 to James and Edna (Rutlodge) Teague in Brown County. She graduated from Bangs High School in 1949. Bettie married the love of her life, Kenneth Carpenter, on November 27, 1949. She was employeed at Coggin Elementary for over 20 years, after retiring from Coggin in 1991 she worked part time for Custom Floors up until recently. She was a member of Southside Baptist Church many years. Bettie was also a member of the Bluebonnet Chapter American Business Women’s Association and was named Woman of the Year in 1999 and Bluebonnet of the year in 1997. Her pride and joy were her son and grandchildren.
She leaves behind to cherish her memories son, Rick Carpenter and wife Kristina of Waco; granddaughter, Holly Carpenter of Waco; step grandson, Ben Hoover of Round Rock; step granddaughter, Alyssa Hoover of Waco; sister-in-laws, Jo Ann Teague of Brownwood, Ann Brooks of Oklahoma City, Jean Sikes of Fort Worth, and Nelda Smith of Red Oak.; nephew, Tommy Teague of Plano; cousin, Brooks Teague of Grand Prairie. She is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, and other family members.
Bettie was preceded in death by her husband of 38 years, Kenneth Carpenter; parents; brothers, Burl N. Teague, Howard E. Teague, and James E. Teague; and sister, Gladyce Thompson.
