Bettie Deloris Hill, age 72, a life-long resident of Blanket and recent resident of Brownwood, passed away Sunday, August 19, 2012 at her home. She was born September 27, 1939 in DeLeon, Comanche County, Texas to Wilson Harold Bridges Sr. and Delpha Lorene Harvison. She was a member of the Grosvenor Baptist Church and loved her church family. Services will be at 10:00 AM Thursday, August 23 at Heartland Funeral Home with Pastor David Barnum officiating. Burial will follow in the Blanket Cemetery under the direction of Heartland Funeral Home. Visitation will be Wednesday 6:30-8:00 PM at the funeral home.
Mrs. Hill married Douglas Aldean Hood February 9, 1955 and had six children. She next married Joe Hill of Blanket, May 3, 1979 adding three additional children to her family. She was a devoted wife, mother, and “Branny” to many. Her home and yard was always filled with the company of family, friends and neighbors, and she always had a pot of coffee ready and waiting. She loved the outdoors and enjoyed many years camping and fishing on the Llano River and was especially fond of “her birds” and Chihuahuas. Ask anyone what they remember most about Bettie and they will tell you she was an excellent cook. She worked for many restaurants in her lifetime, but what pleasured her most was cooking for her family and friends. Her family will always cherish the memories that she made with each and every one.
Bettie leaves behind sons Wendell Hood and wife Sylvia of Baytown; Wayland Hood of Baytown; Sterling Hill and wife Mary of Blanket; daughters Wanda Tongate of Brownwood; Tammy Mackey and husband Brian of Brookesmith; Rhonda Hill of Blanket; one sister Sue Reeder and husband Buddy of Brownwood; and one brother Wilson “Sonny” Bridges of Blanket; 24 grandchildren and 32 great grandchildren.
