Funeral services for Bessie Leola Hatfield, 83, of Bangs, will be held at 11 am on Friday, January 14, in the Heartland Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Ronnie White and Bill Dodd officiating.
Interment will be held at 2 pm on Saturday, January 15, at the Grady Cemetery in Grady New Mexico.
Mrs. Hatfield passed away on Monday, January 10, 2011, at Baylor All Saints Hospital in Dallas.
Bessie Leola LaGrone was born on June 22, 1927, in Bronte, Texas, the daughter of Elmer and Bessie LaGrone. She graduated Valedictorian in O’Donnell, Texas, in a class of three. On May 1, 1955, she married Harvey Hatfield in Grady New Mexico.
Mrs. Hatfield graduated from Seminary School in New Orleans and had attended Howard Payne University for three years, where she earned her teaching degree. She had done secretarial work in Dallas for a number of years and had worked for the First Baptist Church of Dallas, where she enjoyed working with the youth department.
Leola loved to study and quilt and was a member of a quilting group in Brownwood. She had lived in Bangs since 1974, moving there from Dallas, she was a Baptist, and attended the New Testament Holiness Church in Bangs.
Survivors include her husband of 55 years, Harvey Hatfield of Bangs; son, David Hatfield of Honolulu and Grady New Mexico; one granddaughter, Lacey Hatfield of Yucaipa California and one grandson, Shae Hatfield of Austin.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Elmer and Bessie LaGrone; a son, John Hatfield and her brother, Leon LaGrone.
