The Bereaved Parents Support Group will hold the annual Angel Tree decorating on Tuesday, November 18th, at 7 p.m. inside Heartland Mall in Early, (in front of J.C. Penney). Family members gather to hang their angel ornaments which will remain on the Angel Tree throughout the holiday season (December 28th).
The Angel Tree is a way to memorialize loved ones who have died. The group has grown to many hundreds of angels to date and each year more are added. In 2012, the group expanded the Angel Tree to two trees to meet the increased need. The tree tradition began 17 years ago to honor children who have died, but found a need for others to be able to honor their spouses, parents, siblings, friends, and grandparents. The Angel Tree expanded to honor anyone who has died.
The group offers ornaments free of charge to the public. Contact LaFreda Kilburn at 325-752-6025 or 325-998-1567 to have an ornament made in honor of a loved one and placed on the tree. Please provide a name, birth date, death date and a picture if available.
The group gathers around their Angel Trees on Sunday, December 14, at 6:30 p.m. to honor their angels in a Candlelight Memorial Service. This candlelight service offers a comforting evening to honor all who have died with poems and songs, the lighting of the four candles along with reciting angel’s names and lighting candles in remembrance.
The public is invited to participate in both of these memorial services which are open to anyone who has lost a loved one. The memorials are free of charge, ornaments and candles are provided by the Bereaved Parents Support Group.
