The local Bereaved Parents Support Group will take part in the Compassionate Friends 16th Annual World Wide Candle Lighting, Sunday, Dec. 9 in Memory of Children.
The Brownwood area’s local group joins with the Compassionate Friends to host this local event inside Heartland Mall around their Angel Memorial Trees. The Wave of Light is a virtual wave of light around the globe that happens annually, the second Sunday in December. Beginning in New Zealand at Midnight on the second Sunday and encircling the globe, burning one hour in each time zone until it reaches back that at Midnight’s end the next evening, thus creating a virtual Wave of light as each light burns down in one time zone and the next one takes over.
The local time in Central Texas is 7-8 P.M. The group will gather at 6:30 and begin their program being able to light their candles at 7 and allowing them to continue burning until 8. This evening is a casual evening for all family and friends to honor their loves ones this holiday season. The group is basically for the loss of the child, grandchild or sibling. Through the years with the lack of support in this area, the group has expanded to encompass any loss of a loved one. So everyone is welcome to come honor their loved one and spend an evening this holiday season with them. For those who have lost a loved one, the holidays are hard to face, with that empty chair at the table, but this evening offers a chance to spend an evening remembering them and set this time aside to spend it honoring their legacy. It is a healing evening where entire families come together and remember. If there are those who can’t attend a function, we ask that you simply light your candle wherever you are as an honor to your loved one.
The Compassionate Friends offers a Remembrance Book during the day of the candle lighting for the public to post remembrance if they desire, online at www.compassionatefriends.org and also on Facebook. If you need further information contact: LaFreda Kilburn 998-1567
“Families who lose children experience, on earth, life after death. They don’t dwell. They don’t forget. It is a delicate walk, and sometimes in the dark. Any light helps, even one small candle.”-Jacqueline Mitchard
