The Brown County Water Improvement District hired and swore in a new Lake Patrol Officer at their December Board of Directors meeting on Tuesday. Michael Scott Burke, II was hired as the new officer and will start work immediately. Water district legal counsel Bill Bell administered the Oath of Office to Burke during the meeting.
Burke recently left the Brownwood Police Department to take the new position with the Lake Patrol. Burke takes the place of former Lake Patrolman Reese Shaffer who resigned a few months ago.

Other issued addressed by BCWID Board Tuesday:
*The board accepted the 2009-2010 audit report by Burl Lowery, CPA. Lowery said that it was a “good report”.
*The board approved a water sales contract for the Heart of Texas Baptist Encampment to purchase water from Lake Brownwood to fill a new 2 acre pond in the area. The encampment built the pond due to low water levels in the lake and the need for water recreation on their property. The pond is 10 feet deep and will be filled by raw water purchased from the district.
*The board approved a call for an appraisal of land owned by the district for potential sale to Wild Duck Marina. The marina would use the land for parking, boat ramp, and a possible future pier.
*The board approved a budget amendment for $12,200 for the repair of a transfer pump at the west water treatment plant.
*The board heard a report on the new microfiltration water treatment plant. The plant is not running to the promised capacity due to a miscalculation by the engineering firm. The plant is being upgraded to exceed the projected capacity at no cost to the district.
*The board approved a change order in the amount of $447,000 to begin rehabilitation to the district’s west water treatment plant.
